WE NEED TO STOP THE ROGUE PRESIDENT

Most reasonable people assume that governments exist to support people and provide the infrastructure to make sure commerce provides whatever is needed to keep people safe and healthy. Sadly, a lot of people who are not reasonable, ethical and moral tend to rise to the top of the power structure in many countries.

When that happens, all of the documents and policies in place become meaningless. The founding fathers of the American experiment wrote a number of documents to guide the new country that was breaking away from the tyranny of King George III. The hope was that they could provide more freedom for people in a new country.

Those founding fathers unstated premise was that the new country would have leaders who would be people with a strong sense of the difference between right and wrong who would place the needs of the country above their own. That is a principle that has guided the formation of most of the democratic countries around the world.

The history of the U.S. has proven that, for the most part, presidents and others in power understood that their actions should be guided by whatever moral compass they have. There have been presidents and political leaders who have broken laws and who have behaved in ways that put their own needs above those of the country, but they have not caused irreparable harm.

Bill Clinton was not the best moral example for our country, but his lack of morality did not get in the way of putting the needs of the country at the top of his priorities as president. His indiscretions pale in comparison to those of Donald Trump who has the distinction of being the most immoral, unethical president that has ever been elected to office. Sadly, Trump is not the only world leader who has been cast from this same flawed mold.
Trump only does things that either benefit him and his family financially or that bolster his unchained ego. He is a disgrace to this country and an example of what the founding fathers did not anticipate. They were naïve and could not envision a time when someone would be in charge of this country who would ignore the rules of law and the needs of a majority of the people. He has been allowed to break laws, amass an even greater fortune and destabilize the world order while trashing institutions such as NATO and the United Nations.

No laws have been able to stop this maniac. He even had the chutzpah (not in short supply for him) to tell the leader of Norway that the reason he is pushing to buy Greenland is that he has not received the Nobel Peace Prize. He has become obsessed over getting that prize. Hopefully, it will be the one thing he cannot buy or bully his way into getting. He is willing to break long-standing alliances and threaten war just to satisfy his ego.

Most of Trump’s actions in this country have to do with ego-satisfaction. The elected legislators in Washington have not pushed back enough to protect this mentally deranged president from doing more harm to the American people. If they simply enforced even a few of the laws he is breaking we might have some relief from the constant misery of having to hear about Trump’s next bizarre action.

I would like to see someone start a movement to enact the 25th amendment that would declare Trump unfit for office. We would end up with J.D. Vance, another evil player, but at least we would get rid of some of what is poisoning America.

Once Trump is gone, this country needs to establish some set of laws that protect the American people from a leader who is out of control. I don’t know what form that would take but we have to learn the lesson from electing a rogue leader and do something so it can’t happen again.
