Brattleboro 2026 Dog and Wolf-hybrid Licenses Available

BRATTLEBORO DOG AND WOLF-HYBRID LICENSES AVAILABLE

Annual Brattleboro dog and wolf-hybrid licenses are available for the 2026 licensing period. Dog owners who applied through the online portal or who provided us with an email address will receive an email from the Town of Brattleboro that the license is due for renewal. Anyone for whom we do not have an email address will receive a reminder notice by mail with instructions for renewing by mail or for claiming the record in the online portal through the Brattleboro.gov website.

LICENSING FEES ON OR BEFORE APRIL 1

NEUTERED      $21

UNNEUTERED $25

Specially trained assistance dogs may be eligible for a reduced licensing fee. Reach out to the Town Clerk’s Office for more information.

License renewal: Access your account, or create a new account, through the Town’s website at https://brattleboro.gov/dog-licensing. Instructions for online renewal are shown on the dog licensing page.  If you licensed in 2025, do not create a new record; log in and click on My Account to see the Actions Requiredsection to renew the existing license. The submitted application will be reviewed before payment can be made. A small processing fee is charged for credit card payments made through the online portal. Dog license renewals can still be done in person at the Town Clerk’s Office, in the Municipal Center drop box, or through the mail. When making the payment through the drop box or mail, you will need to provide your contact information, the dog’s name, and an updated rabies certificate, if needed. We must be able to determine the dog owner to correctly credit payments and issue licenses.

Applying for new license: First time dog licenses require proof of current rabies vaccination from a veterinarian or clinic. Dog owners can apply for a new license either online through the portal or by submitting a New Animal License print application. Visit https://brattleboro.gov/dog-licensing or the Town Clerk’s Office to apply. If proof of spay and neuter is not printed on the rabies certificate, dog owners can submit an additional certificate for proof. If proof of spay and neuter is not provided, the unneutered fee applies.

Licenses issued after April 1 will be charged a late fee. In addition, any person failing to license a dog or wolf-hybrid may be fined up to $100, and the dog or wolf-hybrid may be impounded. If an animal licensed last year has died or been given away, delete the dog from your account or contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 802-251-8157 or by email townclerk@brattleboro.gov, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vermont State Statute Title 20 requires dogs and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older to be licensed annually on or before April 1. A current, unexpired rabies vaccination is required. An animal is not considered licensed without proof of unexpired rabies vaccination and a payment.

Hilary
