Written by award-winning poet and former Vermont Poet Laureate Chard deNiord, AfterTalk unfolds as a lyrical dialogue between the ancient Sumerian couple Inanna, Goddess of Fertility, and Dumuzi, God of Agriculture. Meeting one last time in the mysterious threshold between worlds, they revisit their love and confront the eternal question: will their bond endure, or be severed forever?
Nearly 7,000 years old, the poem that inspired AfterTalk—a precursor to King Solomon’s Song of Songs—was only discovered in 1947 in the ruins of Nippur. DeNiord’s adaptation transforms this ancient text into a contemporary theatrical experience, weaving together music, visual art, poetry, and movement into a mesmerizing exploration of love, memory, and power.
Join us to witness what happens when multiple art forms converge on stage in this unforgettable evening of theater.
