Event date: Apr 9, 1875
Wm. Hudson, one of Estey’s workman, was offered by a brother workman a 75-pound bag of meal if he would carry it four times up and down the 64-step stairway in front of the shops, without stopping. He did it Wednesday evening, in his stocking feet, after his day’s work was over, in about seven minutes, and besides his meal received a handsome contribution from the crowd who enjoyed the sport.
