April 27, 2024 7:30 pm

Evening Star Grange

East West Rd, Dummerston Center VT

Vermont Theatre Company will present its first-ever 24-Hour Play Festival on April 27, 2024, 7:30 pm, at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston, VT.

24-hour plays are a fun, fast, and intense way to create theater. Four short plays will be written, cast, rehearsed, and performed within a single 24-hour period. Actors, writers, and directors will gather on the evening of April 26th at the Grange. Writers will then each write a 10-20 minute play overnight. Actors and directors will return to the Grange the next morning, rehearse their plays over the course of the day, and give one performance that evening. It’s a theatrical flash in the pan that audiences will not want to miss.

This year’s festival writers will be Jesse Tidd, Michael Nethercott, Jessica Callahan Gelter and James Gelter. Jesse Tidd attended Emerson College for film production and screenwriting and is currently one of the writers for Hooker-Dunham’s monthly comedy game show; Thorn in my Side. Michael Nethercott’s writings have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies, and he has published three novels to date. He’s helmed local theatrical productions, created touring shows, and originated Brattleboro’s Forest of Mystery.  Jessica Gelter holds a BFA in theater from Boston University. Her writing credits include a translation of Blood Wedding by Gabriel Garcia Lorca as well as many Forest of Mystery productions co-written with her husband, James. James Gelter is a published author specializing in short story mysteries. He has written numerous short plays that have been produced locally in addition to co-writing the Forest of Mystery for the last eleven years. Their plays will be directed by Ben Stockman, Charlene Kennedy, Shannon Ward, and Isaiah LaPierre, respectively.

Tickets are $10 for all admissions and will be available at the door.

Vermont Theatre Company is a non-profit community theater that has provided Brattleboro-area artists and audiences opportunities to enjoy theater for 40 years. For more information, please visit vermonttheatrecompany.org.
