Filling the SNAP Gap

The Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market has an update for all of our SNAP customers at the market. While VT is providing funds for VT SNAP beneficiaries, those funds will NOT be available until later next week.

HOWEVER, NOFA-VT has informed us that we can still distribute $20 in Crop Cash PLUS coupons for market shopping this week, Saturday, Nov. 1st to SNAP shoppers with no remaining balance on their account.

In addition, through Post Oil Solutions, we are launching a local charitable fundraising effort to “Fill the SNAP Gap.” Stay tuned for details and please do share the fundraising link when it goes live.

Thanks everyone. We’re all in this together!

Hope to see you at the first market of the season this Saturday, Nov. 1st.

  • Waiting Thursday Night On Ruling From Federal Judge RE: Food Stamps

Still waiting Thursday night on a ruling from Federal United States District Court Judge, Boston, Indira Talwani, on the lawsuit filed by Vermont State Attorney General Charity Clark and a bunch of other states.

Google search: “Attorney General Charity Clark today joined a coalition of 22 other attorneys general and three governors in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its Secretary Brooke Rollins for unlawfully suspending the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)…”

“During a hearing over a request by 25 Democratic-led states to keep the funding flowing, U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani told lawyers that if the government can’t afford to cover the cost, there’s a process to follow rather than simply suspending all benefits. “The steps involve finding an equitable way of reducing benefits,” said Talwani…”Talwani said she expects to issue a ruling later Thursday”

  • News Reports Judge Talwani Ordered Government to provide more details...

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/two-judges-rule-trump-admin-must-keep-snap-benefits-place-shutdown-drags

“The emergency order from U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani said the Trump administration must resume SNAP benefits, which were slated to expire
Nov. 1, ruling that plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit are likely to succeed on their claims that the suspension of the benefits is unlawful. She ordered the government to provide the court no later than Monday, Nov. 3, with additional details on how it plans to keep the program funded, and whether the appropriated benefits must be distributed in full or in part…”

There are about 41.7 million people who receive SNAP program food stamps. About 62% are adults, and may also be registered voters nationwide.
So, up to 25.8 million food stamp SNAP recipients might be voters.

The opposition, the force keeping the government shut down, includes people who are telling their U.S. Congress Members, House and Senate,
to hold out because their health insurance premiums will go up Nov. 1, 2025.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/31/aca-open-enrollment-starts-enhanced-subsidies.html

“About 22 million of the 24 million ACA enrollees receive those enhanced premium tax credits.”

The battle they are waging is to keep the tax credits, rather than see them expire. They knew they were going to expire when they bought into the plan.

The food stamp SNAP program recipients were not given advanced warning that their benefits would expire if they still lived below the poverty level.

So, time for Democrats to do the math, something they consistently fail to teach adequately in public schools.
25.8 Million food stamp recipients vs. 22 million people wanting health insurance premium tax credits.
Who do you think will control the outcome of the 2026 Election nationwide?

Are the Democrats flunking math by campaigning to
“middle class” people, rather than all of the people?
