Brattleboro High School is hoping to host 10 international exchange students this fall, who arrive in the area next month. Some are still in need of hosts who could welcome them to the area for even just the first couple of months of their stay. Could you open up your heart and home to one of these students, such as:
Windham Regional Woodlands Association has awarded scholarships totaling $6,000 to two Brattleboro Union High School graduates who will attend college this fall. This year’s recipients are Samuel Stevens of Brattleboro, who will attend Green Mountain College, and Tanner Bell of Guilford, who will attend Unity College in Maine.

Thanks, as always, to ibrattleboro for welcoming Guilford announcements. & actually in this case kids from other towns may attend this session for a modest $50 for the week. (We think that’s a pretrty good bargain for a day camp that includes breakfast (kids can bring lunch, and there are snacks throughout the day, too;) theater games and acrtivities with two wonderful teachers, afternoon activities and time outdoors, and a pretty good-length day 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. And any child needing transport can arrange for one of the staff, including Lbrary trustees and othger parents, to carpool.
For the last few years, there have been rumblings that our educational system is not adequately preparing students to take their place in the workforce. They call it career-readiness, and unfortunately, a lot of young job applicants aren’t, ready that is.

At Brattleboro’s Representative Town Meeting, it is expected that Representative Andy Davis will introduce a non-binding resolution on the topic of Act 46 and school mergers for members to discuss, debate, and vote upon during “Other Business” at the end of the meeting.

The Rotary Club of Brattleboro is pleased to announce the initial offering of a new district wide scholarship in memory of Janice H. McElroy, who served as Rotary District 7870 Governor in 2011-2012 and was instrumental in securing a Rotary International grant of $412,000 to help southern Vermont rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Irene. This scholarship is made possible due to donations from friends, colleagues and Rotary Clubs throughout the District 7870.

Almost everybody has a tech question, and Matthew Wojcik, the library’s Electronic Services Support Specialist, offers free individual help on a wide variety of computers and mobile devices for all library patrons. or the to book one of the appointment slots, which are usually Mondays 5:00-7:00 and Thursdays 1:00-2:00. If those times don’t work, it’s good to inquire anyway, and Matt will make other arrangements when he can.
