Brattleboro VTrans Paving Project Construction Update 11/21/2025

Work is finishing up on U.S. 5 (Putney Road) from the intersection with Vermont Avenue to Noah’s Lane. Nighttime single-lane closures will be in place as needed Monday and Tuesday nights from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with flaggers present to direct one-way alternating traffic through the work zone.

Daytime single-lane closures are scheduled to continue next week on U.S. 5 in Dummerston progressing south Monday through Wednesday. Flaggers will direct alternating traffic patterns through the work zones.

Brattleboro VTrans Paving Project Construction Update 10/31/2025

The Class 1 paving project is finishing up throughout downtown. Crews are working on VT 9 (Western Avenue and High Street) and will be finishing up in areas on U.S. 5 (Canal Street and Main Street). Work to be done includes hand painting (symbols, stop bars, crosswalks, etc.), sign installation, and some signal work.

Brattleboro VTrans Paving Project Construction Update 10/17/2025

Between Vermont Avenue and Noah’s Lane, crews will work on bridge joints and the painting operation will move to this location after paint is complete in the downtown area.

Once this section is complete and in the next few weeks, crews plan to move the active work zone from night shift to day shift and to continue to make progress on U.S. 5 from the Brattleboro/Dummerston town line north toward Putney.

Lower Canal Street Emergency Repairs

The Utilities Division is working to locate a utility issue in the roadway at the intersection of Main ST, Canal ST, South Main ST and Route 142 (Vernon ST).  Motorists are asked to avoid travel in the area if possible.  This issue could result in a loss of water in the localized area.  The Utilities Division will be releasing updates as soon as they become available.

Crews are adding an overnight shift tonight – Friday August 1, 2025 – from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. They plan to pave on Vermont Route 9 (Western Avenue) west of Green Street and on U.S. Route 5 (Main Street) north of the downtown area. Additionally, a crew will adjust structures on U.S. 5 (Canal Street) west of downtown. Single-lane closures with alternating traffic controlled by flaggers will be in place.

VTrans Construction Update July 3, 2025

In observance of the Independence Day Holiday, crews will be off the road at Noon on Thursday, July 3rd and return to work Monday, July 7th.

Motorists should watch for crews accessing the shoulders on Vermont Route 9, Vermont Route 30, U.S. Route 5, and Vermont Route 142 as well as all approach routes and side streets while they install construction signs.
