Eagle Eye View of Brattleboro

Here is a photo of Brattleboro from high in sky taken by my brother from his small plane. Enjoy! I had two more photos that I wanted to share here but they are too big to be shown here.

Klaatu Barada Nikto

John Podesta is the chairman of the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. He previously served as chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and Counselor to President Barack Obama.

On October 7, 2016, WikiLeaks started to publish thousands of emails reportedly retrieved from Podesta’s private Gmail account. Podesta and the Clinton campaign did not confirm or deny the authenticity of the emails and along with others have stated that the Russian government is behind the leaks. The New York Times reported that when
asked, president Putin replied that Russia was being falsely accused. “The hysteria is merely caused by the fact that somebody needs to divert the attention of the American people from the essence of what was exposed by the hackers.”

The New King of Thailand

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn has become the new King of Thailand, succeeding the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I was working at Capital Children’s Museum in DC and one of the exhibits we built was in conjunction with the government of Thailand. We filled a room the size of about three or four classrooms with examples of Thai art, architecture, food, music, language, costume, etc. and the Thai government helped out with money, artifacts and crafts, and even helped construct small buildings.

Ode to Oxycontin, Upon Breaking Two Arms

On Healing Two Arms

The bones demand many naps
and I deny them not a thing.
But napping leads to dreamland
where Startle-man is King.

Boulders fall in his catacombs,
boards fly through his walls,
his bears tear holes in canvas tents,
and his horses kick through stalls.

Dead Even

Shinto is a pantheistic belief, its underlying principle being ‘All life is animated’. And as a consequence of this idea, “Nature can never be evil.”

Phenomenology is the concept that of an infinite number of channels, we choose which ones we focus on, to the exclusion of all others.

Roger Ailes and Lee Atwater were Ronald Reagan’s hatchet men back in the day. I don’t know the ins and outs of their cabal which included North, McFarlane, Haig, Bush et. al., but of the first two…one went on to found the ‘news division’ of Fox, creating a media megaphone for an unprecedented manifestation of Orwellian doublespeak, exemplified by the motto, ‘Fair and Balanced’. The other is long deceased, but his protege was Karl Rove, aka Bush’s Brain.

Express Fluency Featured in Brattleboro Reformer

“Brattleboro’s Express Fluency offers new approach to learning languages.”
August 18, 2016

BRATTLEBORO — Elissa McLean has heard the same sad story more times than she can count: Adults say to her, “I took (fill in the language) for years in high school/college, but I can’t speak a word.”

McLean, founder and owner of Express Fluency, a language school and teacher training center, intends to change that by offering a new kind of language class. The method she uses is based on TCI, Teaching with Comprehensible Input. (Listening and reading comprise input; speaking and writing are output.)

Free Cell Phone and Minutes Provider

I heard earlier today that someone in Brattleboro had signed up for, and received a free cell phone with free monthly minutes included.  The person who was asked to help activate this phone today, asked me if I knew about any such program.

The only thing that came to mind was a monthly credit (that came directly from the service provider)  called “Lifeline”.  The application for Lifeline credits at one time was included in the state income tax booklets but I haven’t seen hide nor hair of any such application for several years now.

How to Safely Pass a Bicyclist

How to Safely Pass A Bicyclist – Some friendly advice for our motorist friends.

1. Slow Down.

When you’re approaching a bicyclist, slow down. Passing a cyclist is going to require you to make a few more moves than just continuing on your course, so reduce your speed in order to prepare yourself.

A Cool Place

Brattleboro (though not a city) has made it to the list of coolest cities in the U.S.:

In Days Of Old When Knights Were Bold

…there were a bunch of families who owned and controlled everything.

They were known as “Nobility” and “Royalty”

And most of them were extremely wealthy by the standards of the time.

Many of these families still exist, such as the Habsburgs, the Hohenzollern, House of Orange-Nassau, and the Battenbergs (Anglicized to Mountbatten, AKA Windsor).

And they’re still extremely wealthy.
