Flat Street Drainage Work Scheduled

Beginning on Tuesday, September 4, The Brattleboro Department of Public Works Highway Division will be working on Flat St. Crews will be installing new drainage on Flat ST in the area of the Boys and Girls Club. The work is estimated to take approximately two weeks to complete. During that time, the sidewalk on the north side of Flat ST (near Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters and the Boys and Girls Club) will be closed and the parking spaces on the other side of the street will be hooded off.

Updated Brattleboro Paving Schedule

Mitchell Sand & Gravel, LLC will be paving several streets in Brattleboro. The paving was tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, August 20. The projects have been delayed and are now scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 23. These paving projects are expected to take approximately a week to complete. The streets that will be affected are Jenny Ln, Glen ST, lower Green Meadow, part of Hinesburg Rd and part of Maple ST.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces in-depth inspections of the bridges carrying NH Route 119 over the Connecticut River between Hinsdale, New Hampshire and Brattleboro, Vermont are scheduled to begin Monday, June 25, 2018 and continue through Friday, June 29, 2018.

Horton Place and Homestead Place Closing for Tree Removal

Horton Place and Homestead Place will be closed to through traffic beginning on Tuesday, June 26, the roadway will continue to be closed overnight and through the day on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. During this time, D&E Tree Company will be removing trees from the area. Residential traffic will be the only traffic allowed in the area. Residents of Horton Pl will enter and exit via Horton Pl. Residents of Homestead Pl will enter and exit via Homestead Pl.

Putney Road Improvements in Brattleboro

VTrans is out today on Putney Road, in the stretch from the West River bridge to NECCA, working on improving the sides of the road for pedestrians and bike riders. They are clearing brush and adding fill dirt this morning.

Traffic delays in the area, so plan ahead.

Grove Street Hydrant Installation

Beginning on Wednesday June 13, the Grove ST entrance to the Municipal Center and Vermont State Building will be closed while Utilities crews install a new hydrant in the area. During the closure, there will be signs indicating that traffic can enter the lot from the Linden ST/Main ST end. The project is anticipated to be completed by Friday June 15, including the repaving of ditches.

Elm Street Closing For Road Work

Elm ST near #15-17 will be closed on Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 from 6:30 am – approximately 5:00 pm both days while Utilities crews work in the area.

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during the construction period. Signage will be in place to remind motorists of the road closure.

New Funding Round for Windham County Renewable Energy Program Announced

Windham Regional Commission’s Windham County Renewable Energy Program is looking for project proposals of renewable energy installations in Windham County.  The projects require a minimum of 50% cash or in kind match. This program has funded 9 projects within Windham County.

Cedar Street Lane Shift Helps Walkers, Bikers

The lower end of Cedar Street in Brattleboro will be getting new line striping. The Department of Public Works isn’t just painting over the old lines, though. They’ve marked it out so the driving lanes will shift slightly to allow for wider edges.

The wider area is at the lower end of Cedar Street, and mostly creates a better walking and biking space on the ski jump side of the road.

East Orchard Street Closing For Paving

East Orchard Street will be closed on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, beginning at 7:00 am and will remain closed until the paving is complete. The road will be closed between Upper Dummerston Rd and Gibson Rd while crews pave the roadway.

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during the construction period. Signage will be in place to remind motorists of the road closure.

Clark Street Closing for Sewer Repairs

Clark ST will be closed on Friday, May 18, 2018, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The road will be closed in the area of 81 Clark ST while Utilities crews repair a sewer line. Local residents can access residences at the northern end of Clark ST via Lawrence ST.

Whetstone Walk-About + Open House

On Friday, May 18 the community is invited to explore the floodplain restoration of a 12-acre parcel of land along the Whetstone Brook at a pair of events. At 5:15 P.M., the Brattleboro Conservation Commission and Vermont River Conservancy will host a site walk of the property which is located at 250 Birge Street in Brattleboro. The public is invited to walk the site and learn more about the floodplain restoration project and site conditions from Sue Fillion, Brattleboro Town Planner and Steve Libby, Executive Director at the Vermont River Conservancy.

Hamilton Road Closing For Excavation

Hamilton Road will be closed on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This closure will be weather permitting. The road will be closed between house # 146 Hamilton Rd and #311 Hamilton Rd to replace culverts. No through traffic will be allowed as the Highway Division will be excavating across the street to install the culverts.

Windham Regional Energy Plan Public Hearings

The Windham Regional Commission (WRC) will hold two public hearings on the proposed Windham Regional Energy Plan as an amendment to the Windham Regional Plan at 6:30pm on Monday April 9 at the Townshend Town Hall and Thursday April 12, 2018 at The Westminster Institute.

Western Ave Pothole Repair

On Wednesday, February 28 and Thursday, March 1, from 9:00am -2:30pm, the Department of Public Works will have crews working on Western Avenue to repair potholes. On Wednesday the crews will be working on the east bound lane between Academy School and the I91 overpass. On Thursday, the crews will work on the west bound lane between the I91 overpass and Academy School. There will be several crews and large equipment in the roadway and police officers will be in the area for traffic control. The public should expect delays and avoid the area during those dates and times if possible.

Hinsdale Bridge Notice of Public Hearing

The New Hampshire and Vermont Departments of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Hinsdale (New Hampshire) Town Hall regarding acquisition of property that is planned for construction of the new bridge connecting Brattleboro and Hinsdale. Attached is the Notice of Hearing which must be posted in at least 5 conspicuous places. Please post it in the usual places – Town Clerk, Library, Recreation & Parks, Fire Department, and Public Works, as well as the home page of the Town’s website under “News.” Thank you.

Windham Regional Commission Seeks Input on Draft Energy Plan

The Windham Regional Commission looks for public comments as they develop the Regional Energy Plan with four public meetings in December and January. The meetings will be an opportunity for the public to come and learn about why the Regional Planning Commission is creating a Regional Energy Plan, what information is included in those plans, and what that means for towns. The attendees will be invited to express comments on the draft plan and, more broadly, on energy planning in our region.

Brattleboro 2017 Paving Rescheduled

Starting Thursday, November 2nd, Mitchell Sand and Gravel (a contractor for the Town) will be starting the Town of Brattleboro’s annual Capital Paving Project. The contractor will begin milling small joints at intersections and Project limits. Weather dependent, it is anticipated that paving on Washington Street and Frost Place will be on Friday, November 3rd. Subsequently following will be Willow Street, Williams Street, Terrace Street, Tyler Street, Bradley Avenue, and Black Mountain Road. The contractor may work Saturday if weather allows. On street parking will be impacted and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
