Gypsy Jazz Meets Balkan Swing in a High-Energy Bandwagon Double Bill: Rhythm Future Quartet and DiTrani Brothers Perform August 23 at Putney Inn Field

Next Stage Arts continues its Bandwagon Summer Series with a twin bill of genre-bending acoustic brilliance: Rhythm Future Quartet and The DiTrani Brothers perform on Saturday, August 23 at 6:00 PM at the Putney Inn Field, 57 Putney Landing Road in Putney, VT. Gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the gate, and free for children under 12. Food will be available from Smokin’ Bowls.

This all-ages outdoor concert promises a vibrant mix of gypsy jazz, Balkan folk, and early American swing—an unforgettable evening of music under the summer sky.

Rhythm Future Quartet brings the spirit of Django Reinhardt into the 21st century with virtuosic performances and inventive arrangements. Named after a Reinhardt composition, the quartet blends Hot Club swing with Brazilian, Eastern European, and contemporary influences, pushing the boundaries of what Gypsy jazz can be. Led by violinist Jason Anick—a professor at Berklee College of Music—the group includes rising jazz stars Max O’Rourke (guitar), Henry Acker (guitar), and Greg Loughman (bass). Their recordings, including the acclaimed Rhythm Future Quartet and Friends, have earned praise from JazzTimes, The Huffington Post, and millions of online viewers.

The DiTrani Brothers offer a raw, foot-stomping counterpoint to RFQ’s refined swing. Describing their sound as “perilous tunes for the hopeful,” the band draws on Balkan folk traditions and old-time American jazz, delivering high-energy, accordion-driven sets filled with haunting melodies and hard-driving rhythms. Originally street performers, the brothers have evolved into a full quartet with drummer Eddie Gaudet and bassist Benjamin Richards, touring widely and releasing their third album, Dust Harvest, earlier this year.

The Bandwagon Summer Series is a celebration of community, creativity, and cultural diversity, presenting live music in scenic outdoor settings across Windham County. Each event features a dedicated play area for kids, food vendors, and cocktails from Barr Hill. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to settle in for an evening of top-tier music and local flavor.
