Civil War II?

CIVIL WAR II?

Protests in this country are escalating, yet the illegal violence against citizens continues. The Trump sandbox mentality of having the big guns makes him feel that no laws apply to him, so he continues to trample on the rights of Americans as well as some people in other parts of the world.

Most of us are feeling helpless, but the question in my mind is whether or not people will move their protests closer to the level of a civil war. We are losing the democracy that many of us have believed in, and we are being mentally and physically tormented on a regular basis just for trying to stand up for the rights that have been guaranteed in the documents that are supposed to guide the people who run this country.

The Supreme Court is useless as they carry Trump’s water and make decisions that defy common sense and push far right political agendas. Most of the politicians in Washington support Trump’s unhinged actions, but there are a few signs that Trump’s support among his own party is starting to move ever so slightly away from his madness.

Most Democrats have been no help in preserving the ideals of this country.

The few politicians who have been calling out this administration, such as Bernie Sanders, are still voices in the wilderness. If we wait for Washington to rebel against Trump and his regime we will be waiting until the sun sets in east.

What’s the solution to this problem? The more Trump acts against the people the more it becomes clear that we need to mount our own forces and push back. I doubt there would ever be a palace coup in the U.S. where American rebels storm the White House and the Capitol and take over the government by force while capturing Trump and giving him a taste of his own medicine.

It would be nice if we could change the situation without violence by amassing the largest protests this country has ever seen and paralyzing commerce until Trump and his cronies resign and leave town. That would be the way that Martin Luther King would have hoped to see an end to the current regime. The likelihood of that is slim, but it is possible with a major coordinated national effort. That would be my hope.

If that kind of mobilization does not happen soon then we are all in danger of being beaten and arrested for no other reason than not supporting our new dictator. The next step would most likely result in violence and that would be bad for all of us.

I am not a military strategist but I think that in order to move into a more militaristic mode we would have to have a majority of U.S. governors activate their national guard troops and have them defy the actions of any armed agents of the administration who are taking away our rights by force.

In a fantasy scenario, as the confrontation unfolds, the Trump troops would lay down their arms when confronted by National Guard troops and join the movement against the administration. The dawning of a new political era.

But that is not likely to happen and, if it does not, then blood will be shed and we will create this country’s second civil war. Would Trump tell his troops to kill everybody fighting against him? No doubt. Would the troops follow those orders? It would be the most deadly game of chicken ever played out here and, no matter the outcome, it would not have a happy ending.
