Watching Angels Public Art Show – Slideshow

Here is a slide show that Meg Donahue created about the interactive public art show she produced here in Brattleboro during the month of September called “Watching Angels.”

With a very small crew, she installed and maintained two big chalkboards (one on Flat Street and one in Harmony Parking Lot) that asked “What Are You Grateful For?…” And there were over 100 artist created angels scattered around the downtown with uplifting messages on placards next to them.

The closing party was last Friday night and she shared this video with all of us:

  • Only saw one

    Glad to see this slideshow.

I spent the month looking for these angels and only saw one, in Pliny Park. I kept looking up and around for them, but they were elusive. I was wondering if I had the month wrong. I didn’t… I just had the wrong locations.

    I saw the chalkboards. : )

    • Elusive Angels

It’s funny — Meg told us that some people said “when are you going to put up the show, there aren’t any angels up” and other people said “OMG I have seen 50 angels, they are everywhere.” One person stopped her at the door of the River Garden and asked where they were. She told them that if they turned in a circle in that spot where they were standing they could see 18 of them. Makes me wonder what else I don’t see every day….

      • Maybe they appear for certain people more than others...

Perhaps they were smaller than I was imagining they’d be. Eighteen in view from the RG! I missed 17 of them. : )

I like the idea of art hidden about town, regardless of whether I was able to find it.

        • Not so small...

Nine of them from that location were about the size of the barrel but two-dimensional. Three others were 1 foot x 2.5 feet (and one of those was three giant steps away from the Pliny Park one you saw). Fun! I hope she does it next year and maybe we can do an iBratt treasure map with clues…
