Mixed Media Assemblages by Lauren Pollaro at MGFA

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to present Color & Construct, an exhibit featuring the mixed media assemblages of Lauren Pollaro. The show opens with a receptionThursday, April 21, at 5pm and continues through May 29. An Artist Talk is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 5pm.

Lauren was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1962, and comes from a family of accomplished artists. Her father, Paul Pollaro, taught, served as Assistant Director of the MacDowell Colony, Peterborough, NH, and has exhibited nationally over a hugely successful and lengthy career.

Working as a jewelry artist for over 20 years, Lauren honed technical skills and fulfilled interests in new techniques through courses, workshops, and studio experiments. Her mixed media wall sculpture has evolved from her jewelry practice, with harmonious combinations of color, texture and form. In these magnified pieces there is liberation: large fields of color; bold patterns; painted, crusted, and textured surfaces with metal or wooden elements reaching out from the surface. Lauren has the freedom at this size to experiment with materials where wearability is not a concern.

Lauren’s larger-scale work continues to evolve. According to the artist, “My recent works are about exploring visual space, moving through this space and arriving at a destination. This “journey” takes place on two levels: the visual but also the emotional level; moving through emotion by arriving at a place of contentment or alternatively, a place of letting go. . . The joy in making my work comes from the process; the exploration of materials, experimenting with color and/or textural combinations and the spontaneity of working in this way.“

Lauren Pollaro’s work has been featured in Jewelry Artist MagazineNiche MagazineArtscope Magazine and The Boston Globe, as well as the book Art Jewelry Today 3.

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts features innovative works by midcareer and established artists in a variety of media. MGFA is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11-5 pm.
