Coke-Is-It

“Wealthy eccentric” Fred Koch of Guilford, tired of “cotch” pronunciation, legally changes name to “Coke-is-it.”

I remember this guy getting into the papers every so often for erratic behavior. One time, if I remember correctly, he was arrested for giving away $20 bills on Main Street. When he got before the Judge, the Judge scolded the cop with some pithy remarks.

I don’t think Koch was particularly wealthy. Coca Cola sued him for the use of their trademark and they came to some sort of settlement.

Whatever happened to him?

BTW, he is the father of Olympic skiier Billy Koch.

  • Scary

In the late 90s (when he was particularly outspoken) he came into my office and closed the door! It was pretty scary. Luckily, he didn’t try to prevent me from opening the door and seeking help from my co-workers, and then he just left.

He seems to have disappeared into thin air.
