Aging in Place?

Despite the fact that Vermont has the second highest aging population in the nation, we don’t have many housing options for seniors who want to or need to downsize but who want to stay in their communities. Brattleboro in particular has very limited options. How are you planning to manage it? One option might be creating a senior cohousing community.

Senior Cohousing is a planned community of independent homes with neighbors within walking distance. Not a commune (no sharing of finances) but rather shared ownership of a common house and grounds governed by the community. More information can be found at the Sage Cohousing website. https://sagecohoadvocates.org/.

Could we create such a community locally?

Annamarie Pluhar will facilitate a preliminary discussion about aging in place in our part of the world. Annamarie is the founder of Sharing Housing, Inc. and is a certified facilitator for Senior Cohousing “Study Group 1.”

The meeting will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro, first floor meeting room.
