Bioblitz at Brattleboro Watershed Forest

May 11, 2024 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

We got some great data at our last BioBlitz in September, but spring is when the flora of Brattleboro’s Watershed Forest really shines! Come out to help us learn more about the forest’s biodiversity and determine how it is recovering (or not) from last winter’s (2022–23) timber harvests.
A BioBlitz is a crowdsourced community science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Everyone works together at a BioBlitz—scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members—to get a snapshot of biodiversity. This bioblitz is being co-hosted by the Brattleboro Conservation Commission and Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC). Just bring yourself (and a friend!), some water, and a smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed. If you have binoculars or a macro lens for your phone, bring that, too!
We will meet at the Yankee Dog / MamaSezz parking lot (please park on the right side of the lot), divvy up locations to survey, and groups will carpool to the Gulf Rd and Pleasant Valley Rd. entrances from there. A wrap event will follow at BEEC to gather, help with any lingering observations or uploads, and share out the results of all your work!
Can’t make it to the Bioblitz but still want to contribute? The iNaturalist project will remain open and will automatically add any public observations you make within the boundaries of the Pleasant Valley Reservoir. Join the project to get updates from the organizers:
