The Gallery at Next Stage presents By Words we Change by Finn Campman, an exhibit of paintings with associated writings, February 16 through May 14, 2019. The Gallery, created as part of Next Stage’s recent $1.7 million renovation, is located at Next Stage, 15 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT.
There will be an opening artist reception on Saturday, February 16th, 5:30 pm in the gallery, followed by a presentation at 7:00 pm in the main hall of Next Stage at which a group of creators will share a quote of some text that has transformed them in some way and spend a few minutes discussing, informally, what that change has been. This is a celebration of the Word and life-changes that are offered by what we read.
Collaborators include: Chard deNiord, Helen Schmidt, Peter Mendelsund, Robert Merfeld, Ross Thurber, Tom Shaner, Evie Lovett and Barbara Whitney.

Finn Campman studied printmaking, poetry, and literature at Sarah Lawrence College, and began working with puppets in 1991 when he joined Sandglass Theater. Finn is Co-Artistic director of Company of Strangers, whose production Moth and Moon won an UNIMA Citation of Excellence. He has toured Scandinavia, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, France, Spain, Turkey and Israel. For four years he was an Artist in Residence at The Hall Farm Center for the Arts and Education. Finn created the video component for the Brattleboro Music Center’s production of Devine Chemistry, and has presented his work in three Puppetry In The Green Mountain Festivals. He is currently performing his production Of Bread and Paper, as well as developing a new piece for puppets and mask based on W.B. Yeats’ play At The Hawks Well. He has taught English and Art at Hilltop Montessori School for 18 years. Son of local artists and educators Barbara and Ric Campman, painting has always been part of his life. He has shown work in a number of local galleries, but this is his first solo show.
The Next State Gallery was established as part of the Next Stage renovation completed in 2016. Featured artists have included: Tim Cowles, David Rohn, Julia Jensen, Rosemary Ladd, Nancy Storrow, Ailyn Hoey, Liz Hawkes deNiord, Ines Zeller Bass, and Evie Lovett.
