Second Year for Crafting for the Homeless – Come Join Us!

Come join us on Sunday afternoon, December 6th, from 1:00-3:00 pm, to craft items for the homeless population in the area for the second year in a row. Using traditional crafts, we will make hats, scarves, blankets and sleeping mats from yarn and fleece fabric.

All you need is enthusiasm and interest–techniques will be taught and projects will use basic techniques and simple patterns. This event is suitable for adults, teenagers, and kids old enough to sit still and participate. Kids younger than 12 need to have an adult in attendance with them. If you want to, you can take projects home to work on between meetings.

We are knitters crafter, and crocheters. We gather to make hats, scarves and blankets to donate to Groundworks Collaborative (formerly the Drop In Center). Last season we made and donated 35 warm wool hats, 35 fleece and knitted scarves. We also made enough 5” blanket squares to assemble into three separate blankets, which we plan to auction or raffle off to generate money to purchase fleece fabric for blankets to donate. Fleece blankets are warm, lightweight, and easily washable, and we can produce many more of them than the assembled blankets.

We welcome and encourage others to come join us for a single afternoon or on an ongoing basis. No experience is necessary; we are able to teach both crochet and knitting and have materials, needles and hooks to use. We have suggestions, patterns available and a lot of fun and lively chat as we make things for others in need. We welcome yarn, needle and hook donations and any financial donations, also. We look forward to having you join us. We offer community service hours for any area high school students and encourage young people to see what we are doing. For any questions or concerns, please contact Janet at (802) 254-8454.
