From Paris to Vermont: Building a Movement for a Just Transition

On Jan. 28 at 7 p.m., Shela Linton, who traveled to the UN COP21 climate talks, will report on her experience in Paris with climate activists from around the world, followed by discussion about the road ahead. This event will take place at the Root Social Justice Center, 28 Williams St., Brattleboro, and is sponsored by the Vermont Workers’ Center.

Details: In December, Vermont Workers’ Center reps Shela Linton and Senowa Mize-Fox traveled to the United Nations’ COP21 climate talks, joining a delegation of over 100 grassroots leaders from the US and Canada.

The #ItTakesRoots delegation, along with social movements across the world, condemned the Paris outcome as a failure for humanity and is calling for new alternative economic models based on a Just Transition toward renewable energy, cooperative economies, and community control.

Join Shela for a report-back from the UN climate talks, and a discussion about the road ahead, including the 2016 Vermont People’s Convention and Just Transition Assembly, which is part of a national series of assemblies hosted by the Grassroots Global Justice Alliance and Our Power Campaign. The Vermont People’s Convention will bring together people from different social movements in VT to deepen our understanding of the challenges facing our communities, share ideas for solutions and strategies we can use together to build power and achieve those solutions.

Mark your calendars for the People’s Convention: April 30th – May 1st, 2016!
