Having Bernie’s Back

For Sanders supporters feeling frustrated about media coverage of the Presidential campaign, please know that you can continue to support the cause from the comfort of your home any time you have even a small amount of time using the campaign’s sophisticated phone banking software.  All you need is a phone, a computer, and some time!  20-minute trainings happen online 2-3 times per day as needed.

Here’s the page if you’re just getting started as a volunteer:  https://go.berniesanders.com/page/s/volunteer-for-bernie?source=web_main_nav

If you’re more comfortable phonebanking in a group environment, here’s the link to the page for “events”:

I highly recommend the committed Sanders supporters who have been hosting phonebanking gatherings at 108 East Orchard Street to get you going!  Since getting started with them, I have enjoyed talking to folks in New York, Pennsylvania, &
Connecticut from home and plan to call Indiana folks tonight then probably focus on California.  I have found that a very low-key approach just saying that Bernie has represented me here in Vermont for 20+ years and ‘he’s the real deal’ is pretty effective.  The enthusiasm of the young people will warm your heart! The software does the dialing, the campaign provides the relevant script, so once you’re over the hump, it’s easy to call whenever you have even 15 spare minutes.

Please consider making the time for some calls over the next five weeks!

Bonus – Here’s a cute campaign website page I found in the course of writing this post:

Lastly, if you’re a Bernie supporter who likes to start the day with a lift, check out the BNR diary on Daily Kos each morning.  As an example, here’s today’s:  http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/05/02/1522181/-BNR-Sanders-Predicts-A-Contested-Convention-amp-Bernie-Fires-Up-Thousands-In-South-Bend-IN

Anyone else still feeling the Bern?

  • Leicester

Sanders is still the candidate that I support. : )

(As if it matters what I think…) I endorse him staying in until everything is counted. Not fair to the late states to take away that option for them. Clinton hasn’t racked up the majority of delegates needed yet, and neither has he. It’s not clear that either will have the numbers by the convention, either.

He might not win, but he continues to add to his column, which has implications further down the line when it comes time to bargain. Which, I believe, is similar to what Clinton did in 08. She bargained a cabinet position in exchange for getting out of the way for Obama, very late in the game.

Mark Shields, of Newshour fame, has a recurring line about anything can happen in politics in a week, and that’s true. We have yet to read speeches to banks, hear a final story about using a server at home, see more tax returns from Sanders, let alone the unknown unknowns that could occur.

It’s not impossible for him to win, either. Odds can be steep but overcome. Go Leicester City! The 5000-1 odds by bookmakers were higher for them winning than for Elvis coming back from the dead. And they beat those odds.

If he fails to become the nominee, I’m not sure how I’ll vote in the fall. I tend to write in people I actually would like to see in office rather than vote for any “lesser of two evils.” It’s up to the candidates to win voters over, not for voters to dutifully fall in line.

    • What I picture

      • This is offensive. We can

This is offensive. We can start putting up images that place either Sanders or Clinton in a bad light but why do that? It is childish to put up images such as this. Bernie bro-ism at it’s worst.

        • Are you surpised?

It’s what people who can’t accept reality do.

          • Reality?

It is my sincere belief that both she and her husband are career criminals and are in fact, card-carrying members of the Bush crime family.
(Our political system makes it legal, indeed, even easy for some to engage in acts which would be criminal for the rest of us.)

          • Brilliance

I also believe that GHWB is a bigger criminal than Bill, Hillary or any of the Bush offspring. That his exploits are not better known is a tribute to his brilliance.
Poppy’s father. Prescott may have been a bigger criminal than all of them (he was a Nazi Collaborator, for one thing), but history has been kind to him.

  • Let the people have their say

I strongly believe that Bernie should stay in through the full primary season so that all the voters can have a choice and express their preference. That’s what primaries are for. If Bernie drops out now, all the other voters in the remaining primary states can either vote for the establishment candidate that the party is backing, or stay home, and that seems undemocratic and unfair. Let the chips fall where they may. People have very little power as it is. Why give up more in favor of premature party unity.

As it is, Hillary Clinton can withstand a few more weeks of primary competition. She has all the superdelegates and should she win, a whole lot of establishment Republicans who prefer Clinton to Trump.

    • That's what primaries are for

“I strongly believe that Bernie should stay in through the full primary season so that all the voters can have a choice and express their preference. That’s what primaries are for.”

I agree. Although, this applies to all candidates in the primary season, not just our favorite one.
