  • Emergent behavior

Emergent behavior is a name for studying flocking, crowds, etc.

What is shows is that simple rules (do what the bird in front of you does; or, one car slows down on a highway) can lead to interesting patterns of behavior (a flock; a traffic jam).

I believe it’s a branch of chaos theory, but might be wrong on that.
