Brattleboro Design Review Committee Forming

The Brattleboro Selectboard recently established the new Design Review Committee. Attached is a press release with information about the committee and how to apply to become a member.

The Town of Brattleboro seeks three members for the newly established Design Review Committee. The Design Review Committee (DRC), acting in an advisory capacity to the Development Review Board and Zoning Administrator, reviews and makes recommendations on development applications within the Historic Resource Overlay district as depicted in the Brattleboro Land Use Regulations (LUR). The DRC will ensure new development is compatible with its historic setting by conserving historic resources through reuse. The DRC will review building elevations and architectural designs for compatibility with neighborhood character, building height, massing, materials, and historic preservation standards. The members will serve staggered three year terms through 6/30/2017, 6/30/2018, & 6/30/2019.

The Committee meets on an as-needed basis to review applications.

Qualifications: demonstrated interest, competence, or knowledge in the fields of historic preservation, architectural history, architecture, or landscape architecture; familiarity with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation is desirable; ability to read and interpret maps, site plans, aerial photographs, building elevations and other related plans and drawings; and, ability to work effectively with project applicants, other boards and commissions, Department staff, and the public in a professional and courteous manner required.
