Guilford Street Closure March 24, 2026

Brattleboro, VT – The Department of Public Works will be conducting an emergency repair to a failed culvert on Guilford Street on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

As a result, Guilford Street will be completely closed to all traffic between house numbers #773 and #821 between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. The road may reopen earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule.

Residents and motorists traveling beyond house #773 will not have access through Brattleboro and will need to detour through Guilford to reach their destinations.

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting Agenda – April 24, 2025

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 6:15pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room and over Zoom. Information on how to log onto the Zoom meeting can be found in the agenda. ASL interpreters will be in the meeting for the deaf and hard of hearing. The materials for this meeting will be available on the town website later this week.

Selectboard Meeting Notes: We Don’t Like the Cost of the Bridge We Ordered

The Brattleboro Selectboard took issue with new costs of a bridge project requested by an earlier board, and sent VTrans back to their offices without an approval for their design of the Western Ave bridge replacement near Melrose. VTrans is invited back when the project won’t cost the Town quite so much. No one mentioned the increases that will inevitably occur between now and 2028 when the bridge is scheduled to be completed.

The board also took up some start-up and general housekeeping issues. New Chair Daniel Quipp pledged earlier meeting end times and more public participation in the coming year.

Brattleboro Selectboard Meeting Agenda and Notes – April 2, 2024

A relatively easy first official Brattleboro Selectboard meeting for new Chair Daniel Quipp is scheduled for Tuesday. The Consent Agenda is ample, there are some board rules and assignments to take care of, and there will be some discussion of the recent Representative Town Meeting.

The big discussion could be that the board might use property taxes to pay for matching costs associated with replacing the Rt 9 bridge at Melrose Place.  The Town’s share has risen from half a million to $1.6 million since 2021.

You can once again, one assumes, bring up any other item not on the agenda during public participation.

Maple Street Lights Off

Beginning on July 24, the street lights on Maple Street between Austine Drive and Guilford Street will be out or service through August 4, as Green Mountain Power works in the area.  Please plan accordingly if you use this area after dark, especially for walking or bicycling.

Guilford Street Tree Removal

On Tuesday, October 4, Nichols Tree Care will be removing trees from Guilford Street in the area between Maple Street and the Small Fry Field.  The work will begin at 10:00 am.  There will be periods of alternating one-lane traffic while this work takes place.  Motorist should plan for delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Promotion of Brattleboro was a primary topic at the regular meeting of the Brattleboro Selectboard Tuesday. Blue Whale Public Relations had some typical Zoom-related delays but otherwise gave a solid report on their early efforts to reach out to the media.

Hybrid meetings will continue for a while longer, favorable financing for the water treatment facility was announced, new stop signs are official, and Union Station might be sold for a dollar in order to save as much as $100,000.

The Brattleboro Selectboard is easing into budget season while wrestling with the safety of retuning to in-person meetings. They got an update on the Water Treatment Plant upgrade, paid for some emergency repairs, gave out a liquor license, and discussed Town Manager Elwell’s final Long Term Financial Plan.

There was more – there will be new stop signs coming to some corners, a discussion of ARPA fund possibilities was quick, and a discussion of blinking crosswalks took quite a while.

This includes emergency replacement of a blower and other emergency repairs for wells, a project update, and a loan application. The board will continue discussion of adjusting COVID rules, hear an update on ARPA funding, consider some traffic safety measures, and contemplate Town Manager Elwell’s final Long Term Financial Plan, FY23-27.
