Chase Street Water Valve Repair

On Wednesday, July 28, Utilities Crews will be working to repair a water valve on Chase Street at the intersection with Oak Street.  The work will begin at 7:00 am and will continue though 5:00 pm.  

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during this time period.

Brattleboro DPW Road Work Update

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

The Department of Public Works continues to have crews out in several areas of town working on road repairs following the severe rainstorm on July 17.  

Motorists and residents are asked to continue to use caution on roadways when approaching crews and equipment working on these repairs and to expect delays.  

Hinesburg Road

The stone culvert failed at the intersection of Hinesburg Road and Melchen Road.  The road will remain closed for several weeks while repairs take place.  

Norma Hardy to Become Brattleboro Police Chief on July 28

Norma Hardy will become Brattleboro’s next Police Chief on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. 

Hardy had a distinguished 26-year career with the Police Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. After 10 years of service as a Police Officer serving at a variety of Port Authority facilities, she was promoted to Construction Sergeant at the World Trade Center site in 2002, to Executive Officer at the World Trade Center site in 2006, to Police Captain and commanding officer at the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels in 2008, to Police Inspector and Northern Zone Commander in 2011, and to Chief of Port Authority Bridges, Tunnels, and New Jersey Airports in 2013.

She received numerous internal commendations and external awards during her career with the Port Authority, including the 2014 Officer of the Year Award from the International Association of Women Police and the 2016 Trailblazer Award from the National Organization of Black Women in Law Enforcement. Hardy attended the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York and also has completed advanced training in law enforcement leadership, personnel and finance administration, security assessment, and emergency response management.

Brattleboro Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Schedule

The taxpayers of the Town of Brattleboro are hereby notified and warned that Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes assessed upon the Grand List of 2021 are now due and payable to the Town Treasurer at the Treasurer’s Office in the Brattleboro Municipal Center, 230 Main Street, Suite 111, Brattleboro, Vermont, in four equal installments as follows:

Motorists and residents are asked to continue to use caution on roadways when approaching crews and equipment working on these repairs and to expect delays.  

Brattleboro Summer Paving Schedule 2021

Monday, July 19th, D.M.I. Paving (a contractor of the town) will be starting our summer paving project. Cold Planning and paving operations will be taking place on Highland ST, Central ST, Pearl ST, Thomas ST, Pellet ST, Blakeslee ST and White Birch AVE. Weather permitting, work is expected to happen between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday thru Friday. On street parking will not be permitted during work hours. The project is expected to take approximately two weeks. 

Help Us Understand Housing Needs in Brattleboro

The Town of Brattleboro is conducting a housing survey to help the Town and its partners create housing solutions to address pressing housing needs. Your contribution to the study of housing needs is very important. Findings from the survey will be incorporated into a Housing Action Plan that is expected to be completed this fall. In addition to residents of Brattleboro, property owners and those who would like to live in Brattleboro but have had trouble finding housing are encouraged to take the survey.

Selectboard Meeting Notes – The Dam Plan

The first “hybrid” meeting using a combination of in-person and zoom participants had no real technical issues to speak of, but many interesting details to discern.

Big news was the agreement being worked out with owners of the nearby Connecticut River dams. They will be changing their operations to create a more natural water flow, which is good news for the river banks, all sorts of critters, recreation, and even the company’s plans for the future.

New land use amendments were approved, as was a mural project. The board also heard of two new places in town to get drinks more easily – Retreat Farm and craft experiment at the River Garden.

Brattleboro Selectboard Agenda & Notes – July 6, 2021

At their first meeting in July, the Brattleboro Selectboard will make it easier to buy liquor downtown and at Retreat Farm with the granting of two new liquor licenses. They will also buy pick-up trucks, approve a new mural for a parking lot, contemplate repairs on the Elliot Street bridge, adopt new Land Use regulations, discuss their summer meeting schedule, review their goals, approve of dams, and more.

You can bring up other items not on the agenda during hybrid public participation.

Brattleboro Independence Day Closures

 The Brattleboro Town Offices Will Be Closed Monday, July 5, 2021, in Observance of the July 4th Holiday. 

In observance of the July 4th holiday, all Town offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021, with the exception of emergency services. 

Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Monday, July 5. All other violations will be enforced. 

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 4:30pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center. The public can also connect to the public session of the meeting using zoom. The Board will convene at 4:30pm and is expected to immediately enter into executive session to discuss the appointment or employment or evaluation of a public officer or employee. The Board will reconvene after the executive session and immediately adjourn. No action will be taken.
