I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015.

There will be no night work the week of December 22nd.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Fall of 2015.

There will be no truck activity or flagging on Route 30 the week of December 22nd.

MONTPELIER, Vt.—December 15, 2013–

The section of VT Route 30 that is directly under Interstate 91 in Brattleboro will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, December 18 and continuing on Thursday, December 19. The closure is required to ensure the safety of the traveling public while demolition work is conducted on the existing I-91 northbound bridge spanning VT Route 30. The closure will be for a maximum of 48 hours; the route will reopen no later than 8:00 AM on Friday, December 20.

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015.

This week, night work will be conducted Sunday through Friday nights (December 15th – 20th), and will continue Sunday through Thursday, and occasionally Friday, nights for the next several months, until demolition is complete.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Fall of 2015.

The PCL+FIGG Team will conduct the first on-site “Trail Talk” for the Public on Saturday, December 14, 2013. These trail talks will discuss the status of the I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Project and will provide participants the opportunity to learn about the construction and ask questions.

The talks will originate at the West River Trail near the marina. The first trail talk will be led by Caleb Linn, Project Manager for PCL (lead contractor), and Garrett Hoffman, Design Manager for FIGG (bridge designer).

Night work on the existing I-91bridge will begin on Tuesday night, November 12th and will continue for the next several months, until demolition is complete.

Route 30

MONTPELIER, Vt.—November 8, 2013–

Work is beginning in earnest on a project to replace two existing bridges on I-91 with a single, four-lane structure that will accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic.

The PCL+FIGG Team that is working under contract to the Vermont Agency of Transportation announced today that northbound I-91 traffic will be relocated to one of the lanes on the southbound bridge starting on Tuesday, November 12^th and continuing until the existing northbound bridge is demolished. Once the northbound bridge is demolished and the new bridge has been constructed, traffic will be rerouted to the new bridge while the southbound bridge is demolished. Throughout this process, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the project in the Fall of 2015.

The Town of Brattleboro is looking for citizens to serve on the newly formed Skatepark Site Selection Committee. The Committee was formed by the Selectboard on November 5, 2013, and will consist of seven interested citizens. The Recreation & Parks Director will serve as lead staff member to support the Committee and also engage staff from other Town departments as needed.

Washington Street will be closed to through traffic from Highland Street to Prospect Street for three weeks starting Monday, October 28, 2013. Renaud Bros. will be working with the Department of Public Works to replace the failed retaining wall. Motorists should plan to use alternate routes.

The Windham Regional Commission (WRC) is approximately halfway through the two-year update process for the 2014 Windham Regional Plan. The Plan reflects shared values and concerns of the people who live in the 27-towns and discusses current and future issues facing the Region. The Windham Region consists of the 23 towns of Windham County, Readsboro, Searsburg and Winhall in Bennington County, and Weston in Windsor County. The Windham Regional Plan is updated on an eight year cycle during which the information and statistics presented in the Plan, the Plan text which describes both historical and developing trends and values, and the resulting Plan policies will be reviewed and updated based on current information and conditions.

MONTPELIER, Vt.—October 14, 2013–

The PCL+FIGG Team that is working under contract to the Vermont Agency of Transportation to reconstruct I-91 bridges in Brattleboro is using a full array of “Smart Zone” tools, including Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS), Wavetronics radar traffic sensors, and video cameras that will broadcast live data to a public website devoted to the project. The site’s traffic sensors will continuously monitor traffic volumes in the work zone. This information will be used to automatically post messages on project signs regarding potential delays and expected travel times.

MONTPELIER, Vt.—October 11, 2013–The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) will remove the temporary lane closures on Interstate 91 in Brattleboro over Columbus Day weekend to accommodate holiday traffic. The temporary closures are associated with construction to replace the interstate bridges between exits 2 and 3.

The northbound passing lane that is currently closed will be opened for the weekend starting at approximately 1:00 PM Friday, and the southbound passing lane will be opened at approximately 5:00 PM Friday. The northbound lane closures will go back in effect on Monday morning and the southbound lane closures will be re-established Tuesday morning.

Single lane closure of the passing lanes on I-91 Northbound and Southbound will continue for the week of October 13. The lanes will remain closed over the weekend.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through August 2016. Truck activity on Route 30 will continue for the week of October 13. On Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17, Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane. Flaggers will regulate traffic flow.

Single lane closure of the passing lanes on I-91 Northbound and Southbound will be in effect next week during the construction of the temporary cross-overs. The lanes will be opened over the weekend when no workers are present.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through August 2016. Truck activity on Route 30 will increase next week and shoulders will be closed. Flaggers will regulate traffic flow to allow truck and equipment access to the work zone. Traffic will be stopped for a maximum of ten minutes.

[BRATTLEBORO, VT]: The Brattleboro Housing Authority (BHA), at a meeting today with officials from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and representatives of Vermont’s Congressional delegation, described substantial progress in creating new affordable apartments to replace the senior public housing at Melrose Terrace damaged by Tropical Storm Irene.

“With the help of Housing Vermont, our development partner, we’re well into the predevelopment phase,” said BHA Executive Director Chris Hart.

Housing Vermont secured an option on the 2.8-acre site at 464 Canal Street in July.

Route 30

After September 30th, the project team may need to regulate traffic flow on Route 30 periodically to allow truck or equipment access to our work zone. These operations will be controlled by flaggers and will be for a maximum of 10 minutes.

During the week of October 7th, one lane of Route 30 will be closed during the day for approximately two days. Flaggers will regulate vehicle movement through the work zone.

Looking further out, we are currently anticipating short duration closures of Route 30 due to overhead demolition activities in late November or early December. As we progress in our sequence we will let stakeholders know the dates and duration of these closures.
