I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update – Week of December 1, 2013

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015.

Night work will resume on Monday, December 2nd, and will continue Sunday through Thursday, and occasionally Friday, nights for the next several months, until demolition is complete.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Fall of 2015.

Truck activity on Route 30 will continue for the week of December 1st. Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane intermittently; when this occurs, flaggers will regulate traffic flow.

ROUTE 30 CLOSURE IN MID DECEMBER: VT Route 30 will be closed for a two-day period between December 16th and December 22nd. The actual closure dates will be communicated to stakeholders a minimum of 72 hours in advance after the team is able to confirm forecasted weather conditions are acceptable for work to proceed. Once the closure begins, no through traffic will be permitted on VT Rout 30 through the I-91 right-of-way.

Upper Dummerston Road

No project impacts to Upper Dummerston Road are anticipated for the week of December 1st.

West River Trail

Work beneath the bridge will resume on Monday, December 2nd and will continue all week. Starting Monday, December 2nd, the trail will be closed at the Marina Trailhead and through access will not be permitted from the north, due to construction activities. The trail will be open Thanksgiving Thursday through Sunday, November 30th.

Signage at the Marina Trailhead and Rice Farm Road Trailhead will indicate current trail status. In addition, we will keep the project’s website (www.i91brattleborobridge.com) up to date on the current status of the trail. The trail is open from the northern trailhead to a point just north of the bridge construction area. The northern trailhead access location is on Rice Farm Road, about a mile south of the Iron Bridge.

West River

Overhead demolition activities will continue over the next several months on the existing northbound bridge. Buoys and rope have been removed due to icy conditions. Workers will monitor the site and ensure that recreational traffic is kept away from overhead activities.
