PRESS RELEASE
Date: April 9, 2026
Topic: Burn Ban in Effect – Town of Brattleboro

Due to current weather conditions and an elevated risk of wildfires, a burn ban is now in effect for the Town of Brattleboro until further notice.

Relative humidity is expected to remain low, with no measurable precipitation in the forecast for the coming days. These conditions create a high wildfire risk, where even a small spark could ignite a fast-moving, dangerous fire.

Effective immediately, all outdoor burning is prohibited, including:
• Brush piles
• Campfires
• Burn barrels

Cooking fires:

Cooking fires are permitted only when contained in a protected container measuring less than 36 inches in diameter. Cooking fires must be continuously attended while in use. After the fire is extinguished, it needs to be fully wet down immediately after use to ensure it is completely out.

This precautionary measure is necessary to protect our community, natural resources, and emergency responders.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation in keeping Brattleboro safe. If you see smoke, fire, or signs of an uncontrolled burn, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe,
Brattleboro Fire Department
