Twilight Music Presents John Gorka at Next Stage Arts

PUTNEY, VT — Twilight Music and Next Stage Arts present an evening with acclaimed folk singer-songwriter John Gorka on Sunday, May 17 at 7:00 pm (doors at 6:15 pm) at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill in Putney.

Described by Rolling Stone as “the leading singer/songwriter of the New Folk movement,” Gorka has spent decades crafting songs marked by emotional depth, wry humor, and a resonant baritone voice. From his formative years at the legendary Godfrey Daniels coffeehouse in Pennsylvania to stages across the U.S. and Europe, Gorka has built a reputation as one of contemporary folk’s most compelling storytellers.

A central figure in the 1980s folk revival, Gorka emerged from New York’s Fast Folk scene and went on to release 11 critically acclaimed albums. His work has been recorded and performed by notable artists including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, and Mary Black. The The Boston Globe has praised his “sophisticated intelligence and provocative originality,” while audiences continue to be drawn to the warmth, insight, and enduring relevance of his songs.

Over a career that has included collaborations with artists such as Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin, as well as appearances on programs like Austin City Limits, Gorka has remained committed to artistic integrity and the power of song. His latest recordings reflect a return to his acoustic roots while continuing to explore new lyrical and musical terrain.

Tickets are $26 in advance, $30 at the door, and $15 for a livestream. Tickets and information are available at nextstagearts.org.

For fans of timeless folk music and masterful songwriting, this promises to be an intimate and memorable evening with one of the genre’s true originals.
