Good morning,
Attached and below is a press release, and also information for the media for elections in Brattleboro going forward:
Brattleboro Board of Civil Authority Adopts Election Recording Policy
The Brattleboro Board of Civil Authority has adopted a new policy governing photography, filming, and recording at polling places during elections.
The policy was approved during the Board’s meeting on July 16, 2026, and is intended to balance transparency in the election process with the need to maintain order at polling places and protect the confidentiality of voters’ choices. The policy was informed by Vermont State statute 17 V.S.A. § 1972.
The policy is as follows:
- During polling hours, there shall be no video or audio recording, or photography taken beyond the check-in tables at any polling place for any election held in Brattleboro.
- After polls are closed, while vote counting is taking place, members of the public and press shall remain in the area designated for observers at all times.
- Members of the public and press may conduct exit polling and reporting only in designated areas outside of a polling place, and so long as they do not interfere with poll workers and voters as voters exercise their right to vote.
Members of the public and press can anticipate signage at the polling place to guide where recording is permissible.
