Keene, NH— The hot dog days of summer are here and Savings Bank of Walpole is ready to celebrate by hosting two separate Community Appreciation Cookouts as a way to say thank you to both its customers and the community. This is the 10th year the Bank has hosted the cookouts and this year’s events will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bank’s 84 Marlboro Street location as well as on Sunday, July 24th beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the Green in Walpole.

Brattleboro Area Hospice to offer “2nd Thursdays in the Memorial Garden” on July 14th

Brattleboro, VT. A brief community memorial service will take place on Thursday July 14th from 5:30-6:00 at the Hospice Memorial Garden located at Living Memorial Park in Brattleboro. The short program will consist of readings of inspirational poems and brief reflections on grief and loss, an opportunity to decorate a memorial stone to place in the garden or take home, and some quiet time to enjoy the beauty of the garden. Everyone is invited to this free event.

This new offering from Brattleboro Area Hospice is called “2nd Thursdays in the Memorial Garden”, and it will be repeated on August 11th and September 8th. The facilitator is Connie Baxter, BAH Bereavement Care Coordinator.

Brattleboro Fourth of July Closings and Events

In observance of the July 4th holiday, all Town offices will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016, with the exception of emergency services.

Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4. All other violations will be enforced.

Brooks Memorial Library will be closed on Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4.

Trash, recycling and composting schedules will be delayed by one day. This is also a reminder that curbside trash pickup will be every-other-week starting on July 11.

75th New Brook Horse Show to be held Saturday, 2 July 2016

(Brookline, Vermont) — Southern Vermont’s oldest horse show will be held Saturday, July 2 at West River Stables At Meadowbrook Farm, 102 Hill Road. The first class starts at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Admission is free to this family-friendly event and spectators are encouraged to root for their favorites from ringside. Refreshments will be served by the New Brook Fire Department Auxiliary and all show profits will benefit the New Brook volunteer fire department which serves Newfane and Brookline.

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting Agenda – Visiting Streets

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 and will conduct site visits at three locations (see agenda). The Board will convene at 5:15pm in the Selectboard meeting room at the Municipal Center then recess and move to each of the three sites to hold site visits. At the conclusion of the site visits, the Board will reconvene the special meeting in the Selectboard meeting room at the Municipal Center (approximately 7:30pm) and hold public hearings pertaining to each site.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of June 27th

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Monday, July 4th from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM (I-91 will remain open). Traffic conditions on both I-91 and through the town will be monitored closely throughout the day. Should traffic congestion become an issue, the ramps may be re-opened until traffic conditions improve. This will be managed actively throughout the day until peak traffic volumes have passed.

July 1 Opening Of From The River, To The River

The Town of Brattleboro and the artist team of Elizabeth Billings, Evie Lovett and Andrea Wasserman invite the Brattleboro community to bring a picnic and enjoy ice cream floats by the river during Friday July 1 Gallery Walk to celebrate the opening of From the River, To the River, a public art project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” grant awarded to the Town of Brattleboro.

Town officials and the artists will welcome the community at 6 pm at the Brattleboro Transportation Center against the backdrop of River Wall, a kinetic sculpture of 38,000 sequins imagining water patterns on the the Transportation Center. Projected Water, a video of images of over 300 people in the Brattleboro community and water imagery, will play at the site throughout Gallery Walk.

Host a Spanish Teen This Summer

Expand your family’s horizons this summer by welcoming a student from Spain into your home through the STEP-to-U.S.A. program. The boys and girls, who range in age from 14 to 17, will arrive on June 25 and spend 3 1/2 weeks in New England, departing on July 20.

The students are all from the Basque region of Spain and are at an intermediate English level. Host families provide a warm and safe home environment for the student, as well as meals and transportation to a meeting spot on the days there are field trips ( Boston and Six Flags–host families are invited to come along).

Twilight on the Tavern Lawn presents Cadillac Envy on Sunday, June 12

Twilight Music continues its 14th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk, world beat, rock, jazz, zydeco, Celtic, swing, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, June 12 with Brattleboro-based, rockabilly quartet Cadillac Envy. The seven concert series continues every other Sunday through August 21.

All concerts begin at 6:00 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain.
