On Exhibit at the Brooks Library: Saxtons River Art Guild & Liza Woodruff

On exhibit for the month of April at the Brooks Library: Liza Woodruff (In the Children’s Illustrators’ Book Cases, 2nd Floor Hallway, across from the Children’s Room) and the Saxtons River Art Guild (in the Main Room).

The Saxtons River Guild was established in 1976 for the purpose of encouraging and stimulating the cultural growth of the arts locally. The Guild is very active and new members are always welcome. Members meet during the fall and winter months at Open Studio to collaborate working in various media of watercolor, oil and pastels, as well as acrylic, collage and drawings in pen/pencil.

Scholarships are awarded annually to local high school students who wish to pursue a career in the arts. Workshops in oil, watercolor and pastels are offered throughout the year by award winning professional artists. Members and guests enjoy bus trips to museums in New England. En plein air (in the open) sessions are held in scenic settings. Members have art displayed in local banks and hospitals in the region as well as scheduled exhibitions. Quarterly luncheons are held as well as the Annual Luncheon in September for good food, great fellowship and a featured speaker discussing some aspect of the Arts.

Liza Woodruff: I have been working as a professional illustrator for 13 years, and have illustrated eighteen books. I live with my husband and our two children in an old farmhouse in Vermont. My studio is in the house and looks out onto the yard and gardens where lots of birds and wildlife visit. It is snowy here a good part of the year, so when I am not working, I enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding with our children. When it is warm, I like to garden, walk our dogs, swim in the lake, and hike.

The Library offers changing exhibits throughout the year, featuring work by local artists on the main floor and work by children’s illustrators in the exhibit cases outside the Children’s Room.  For more information about exhibiting work, please contact Christine deVallet, the Library’s public art coordinator.
