Future Fest 3 Brings End of Summer Art, Music, and Fun To Brattleboro

The Future Collective is throwing its third annual music and arts festival this weekend, August 29 – 31, with a summer’s worth of live music, dance, art, games, and even a carnival.  If you haven’t come out for a Future event recently (or yet), then this is your chance with shows scheduled day and night at a variety of venues.

On Friday, come out to the Stone Church for the kickoff show with a silent auction and live performances from the likes of Wooly Mar, The Grudges, And The Kids, and many more.  Music starts at 7:00 pm.

On Saturday, there will be a Field Day with “awesome outdoor games” at Crowell Park from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by live music from 2:00 pm until midnight at the Stone Church.  16 bands will be performing Saturday with local heroes The Horseys and our personal faves Jacques Le Coque among them.  Moshers will be happy to learn that Free Pizza from Boston is also returning to Brattleboro for this show.

Sunday is just crazy.  There’s a carnival at Elliot Street Park from 11:30 to 1:00 pm featuring (among other activities) a Fun Booth, Photo Booth, Art Booth, and of course a Futuristic Booth.  From 1:30 to 5:00 pm, enjoy acoustic music, puppetry and dance.  Then from 7:00 to midnight, enjoy more amazing music at The Headroom Stages, before wrapping up downstairs at the Future clubhouse for three more sets.

In short, it’s an extravaganza, and if you like local art and culture with a youthful twist, you’re going to love Future Fest.  Cost (no, it’s not free) is $7 – $14 per show, sliding scale, or $19 – $40 for a three day pass.  See below for the full schedule so far.

  • future is today

    Kicks off today.

I’m looking forward to Wooly Mar. : )

Folks who enjoy music and fun should plan to attend some part of this weekend.

  • First night!

Future Fest 3 got off to a great start with 9 bands scheduled. We saw Carinae thru And The Kids, and can report that all the bands we heard were good, and some very good. I esp liked Belle Machine, who had good vocals and an interesting technique of playing each song folky for a while and then kicking it into punk for the second half. The Grudges were a lot of fun. I like their style. The most unusual band of the evening was And The Kids, who managed to be quirky and intense without sounding like the 1980s. We were impressed by their playing (the keyboard player managing bass line, chords, and occasional xylophone bell solos), vocals, and songs.

We’re looking forward to whatever Dadaist games in the park means, and rereading our festival guide in the meantime. 16 bands tomorrow at the Stone Church from 2-12.

  • Very nice!

Well, that was a fun three days of music n stuff. Thank you, Future Collective.

From punkish The Horseys and party rock of Jacques Le Coque,
From a crazed story by Frank Sturgeon and the sad, neo-soul of Tall Boys,
From Wooly Mar and The Grudges,
From piano pop Zanders, (Zanders, Zanders) to the pedals of MV and EE,
From good vs evil in a Zen race, and the sounds of The Snaz,
From Friday… all the way til Sunday night.

Projections, pleasantness, happy host Jonas carrying amps and drum kits up three flights of stairs, loud music, dancing, sitting around, auctions, food, and so on.

(Now everyone can get some rest.)
