Borter’s Studio Announces Winter Jewelry Workshops, Bench Time For Jewelers

BRATTLEBORO, Vt.: Borter’s Jewelry Studio at 22 High St., Suite 202, announces its winter/spring schedule of beginner- and intermediate-level metalsmithing workshops.

Also, for the first time, the studio is inviting aspiring jewelers use its space and equipment to work on their own designs.

Bob Borter, who has been making and selling his jewelry in Brattleboro for more than 30 years, will co-teach the classes with fellow silversmiths Susanna Haas (susannahaasjewelry.com) and Chris Lann (chrislanndesigns.com).

This season’s series offers new one-day classes that run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for novices and intermediate smiths alike, as well as a comprehensive four-day design workshop, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day, for students with some jewelry-making experience.

Winter 2019 schedule of workshops (visit bortersjewelry.com/classes for detailed descriptions):

Jan. 8 – Beginning Silversmith: Forged Earrings, $200

Jan. 10 – Intro to Sand Casting, $200

In addition to the classes, Borter is making bench time available for folks who have some jewelry making skills and/or have taken some classes from Borter’s Jewelry Studio and would like a supportive community studio in which to hone their skills or work on a project.

Budding jewelers may sign up to use the studio from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost for each three-hour session is $36, and blocks will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This is not a class but an opportunity to work on an independent project in an equipped studio with professional guidance if needed. Participants are encouraged to supply their own materials, but some supplies may be available for purchase from Borter’s.

If you would like to sign up or have questions, visit bortersjewelry.com/classes or contact Borter at borterbob@gmail.com or (802) 254-3452. All of the sessions above will be held at the studio. Space is limited.
