Borter’s Studio Announces Spring Jewelry Workshops, Bench Time for Jewelers

BRATTLEBORO:  Borter’s Jewelry Studio announces its spring schedule of beginner- and intermediate-level metalsmithing workshops.

Also, the studio is inviting aspiring jewelers use its space and equipment to work on their own designs.

Bob Borter, who has been making and selling his jewelry in Brattleboro for more than 30 years, will co-teach the classes with fellow silversmiths Susanna Haas (susannahaasjewelry.com) and Chris Lann (chrislanndesigns.com).

This season’s series offers one-day classes that run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for novices and intermediate smiths alike. Most of the classes are held on Tuesdays or Thursdays. For the first time, however, this season offers a Saturday workshop, Introduction to Sand Casting on April 27.

Here’s the complete spring 2019 schedule of workshops (Costs include all materials. Visit bortersjewelry.com/classes for detailed descriptions of each class):

Tuesday, March 26 – Introduction to Sand Casting, $200

Thursday, March 28 – Beginning Silversmith: Forged Earrings, $200

Thursday, April 18 – Cuff Bracelet, $260

Thursday, April 25 – Stacking Rings, $200

Saturday, April 27 – Introduction to Sand Casting, $200

Thursday, May 2 Bezel-set Cabochon Pendant, $200

In addition to the classes, Borter is making bench time available for folks who have some jewelry making skills and/or have taken some classes from Borter’s Jewelry Studio and would like a supportive community studio in which to hone their skills or work on a project.

Budding jewelers may sign up to use the studio from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding dates with scheduled classes). The cost for each three-hour session is $36, and blocks will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This is not a class but an opportunity to work on an independent project in an equipped studio with professional guidance, if needed. Participants are encouraged to supply their own materials, but some supplies may be available for purchase from Borter’s.

If you would like to sign up or have questions, visit bortersjewelry.com/classes or contact Borter at borterbob@gmail.com or (802) 254-3452. All of the sessions above will be held in the studio at 22 High St., Suite 202 in downtown Brattleboro. Space is limited.
