Marriage Equality Wins!

The Supreme Court of the United States has declared that LGBTQ couples are now free to marry in all 50 states. This is huge!

A long, bitter and frustrating fight for equal rights has culminated in a victory. This is a wonderful day worthy of much celebration! Thank you SCOTUS for making the right decision.

  • For Peg and Barb

The decision was in no small part due to the women on the court.

It’s about time we put this debate behind us. It was about time a long time ago, actually. I’m sorry that some of my relatives were unable to live to see this day.

    • Absolutely. And it's also

Absolutely. And it’s also time to stop referring to it as “gay marriage”.
      It’s just marriage.

      • For those who think their

For those who think their vote for President doesn’t really matter, that Obama is not that different than a Republican would be, those who think he’s so tied to corporate interests that it doesn’t make a difference, let this be a lesson. Health care upheld, equal rights to marriage in one week. The Supreme Court matters and the person appointing people to the Supreme Court makes a huge difference. Certainly Bernie Sanders would be a different President than any of the current Republican candidates but so would Hillary. The Supreme Court appointees make a huge difference in civil rights and the right to equal treatment for all citizens. A President who has experienced the lack of opportunity that restricted civil rights creates will appoint judicial candidates who are fair and measured.

        • Does it make a difference?

Both of the major decisions last week wouldn’t have turned out the way they did without justices that were appointed by Republican presidents – Reagan and Bush.

While true, the recent appointees to the Court certainly have had influence and if Bush and Reagan had appointed the last two also I doubt the outcome would have been the same.

And new clean air rules struck down!

Not sure this says anything about voting for Democrats.

I’m feeling like annikee, though – I’ll take a bit of good news where I can get it, whomever is responsible. : )

          • It still matters . . . a lot.

It still matters . . . a lot. The more one can get a court that is appointed by more liberal Presidents the more likely the court will swing more towards civil rights and humane judgments. Never a given, but it increases the likelihood.

  • Pride

It’s great to be proud of my country for a change.
