Weekend Concert(s) – Cream/Traffic/Blind Faith

” Cream were a 1960’s British rock supergroup power trio consisting of bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. Their sound was characterized by a hybrid of blues rock, hard rock and psychedelic rock, combining the psychedelic-themed lyrics, Eric Clapton’s blues guitar playing and vocals,  Jack Bruce’s voice and prominent bass playing and Ginger Baker’s jazz influenced drumming.” from Wikipedia

  • Blind Faith "Can't Find My

Blind Faith “Can’t Find My Way Home” is a total masterpiece. I love that song.
    Thanks for posting that.
Cream broke a lot of ground as a band. “Tale Of Brave Ulysses” is one of my favorite Cream tracks. So heavy and progressive.

Unfortunately, I don’t really dig anything by Eric Clapton after this period. I can’t hang with his solo stuff. Maybe a couple tracks here and there, but overall, Clapton solo puts me to sleep.

But Blind Faith and Cream are great.

    • Cream

I thought Cream was a unique and perfect blend of three contributing forces and became synonymous with the dawn of the psychedelic age they were “instrumental” in stepping out in the forefront of and breaking new ground with a certain intellegence that allowed one to play that well, that high and come up with that kind of iconic material in just a couple years. I grew up listening to this music (Disrali Gears over and over again) in my household with my older brothers and their hippy friends hanging out even though they both had a decade/dozen on, me so naturally I looked up to them and gravitated toward their taste in music and yes had to wear their bell bottoms and psychedelic paisley prints handme downs which I couldn’t wait to get my hands on that coolness but unfortunately for me weren’t so much in style by the time they fit me. However I did not back down and let my freak flag wave anyway sometimes standing out like a sorethumb.!

I agree with you Spencer about Clapton although (except for Derek and the Dominos) I do appreciate his immense talent, I’m not that big on the whinning blues solos (except for Alvin Lee) or his voice particularly, much more partial to Jack Bruce and Stevie Winwood.

I totally agree. It’s especially remarkable that they could come up with that much great material despite such a short lifespan as a band.

  • July and August

Anyone up for choosing our concerts for July and/or August? (Spencer will take September).

Easy to do… find a great full concert, write it up, and I’ll help you format the embedded video if you need help. Can be any type of music, too.

  • 3 great bands

There’s some incredible musicianship in each of these videos. And all of them are summery. There’s something about Steve Winwood and sweltering heat that go well together. Thanks.

    • Glad some listeners enjoyed this threesome retrospective...

…….thanks for your comments, I could do another weekend spot end of July, different genre of course, maybe Herbie Hancock or some other funk!
