Twilight on the Tavern Lawn presents Prydein on Sunday, August 25

Twilight Music concludes its 11th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk, world beat, rock, jazz, zydeco, Celtic, swing, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, August 25 with with Celtic rock quintet Prydein. The seventh and final concert of the 2013 series begins at 5:30 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain. The series is sponsored by the Town of Putney, Putney Food Co-Op, Soundview Paper Company, The Putney Inn, Next Stage Arts Project, The Stockwell Brothers and many other Putney businesses and organizations.  The concerts are free to the public (donations are accepted) and food will be available.

By mixing traditional Celtic repertoire with a rock-music sensibility, Prydein has created a unique sound that has propelled the band to the national stage. Whether you call it Celtic-rock, kilt-rock, bagpipe rock, Scottish-rock or maybe sham-rock, Prydein delivers a high-energy performance loved by young and old. Call it what you will, Aron Garceau (guitar, vocals), Iain Macharg (highland bagpipes, flutes, tin whistles), Dan Houghton (highland bagpipes, flutes, tin whistles, bouzouki, mandolin, vocals), Andy Smith (bass, vocals) and Caleb Bronz (drums) call it fun.

Prydein’s studio recordings capture the band’s ability to stay rooted in tradition with a contemporary rock sound. In 2007, the band released “Loud Pipes Save Lives” to rave reviews. This CD features the group’s high-energy concert closer “Stairway to Scotland,” an arrangement of what they consider the “Stairway to Heaven” of Scottish music – “Amazing Grace” and “Scotland the Brave.” In 2010, Prydein released “Heads Up,” its most impressive CD yet, featuring a truly diverse collection of music. This is music in all sorts of time signatures styles and feels, including jigs, reels, 5/4, 3/4, 6/8, waltzes, 80’s pop, funk and, of course, rock. It ranges from acoustic to distorted, ancient to modern.
