Discovering Conducting – An Exploratory Seminar

What does a conductor do? Why? How?

What’s actually going on during music making?

How and why do we respond to music? Create music?

Can music and our responses be controlled, and is that desirable?

What is it to listen? To hear? To rehearse or practice? To participate? To lead?

Who: Hugh Keelan,
Music Director, Windham Orchestra

When: Saturday, Oct 19,
9-11:30 am

Where: BS&L Community Room,
Brattleboro

Cost: $20

The Brattleboro Music Center invites everyone to explore conducting and music making with Maestro Keelan. This seminar is intended for all musically curious people: whether you are a performer, experienced conductor, or non-performing music lover.

“A conductor causes extraordinary and measurable growth for those with whom they work, frequently and at its best, in an instant. This is the source of inspiration. Conducting is the art of communication from one (silent) agent into and through a group (of performers).  Skills are structured from the fundamentals of ear training and notation, mastering a small number of physical patterns, creating a desired environment of communication and selflessness.”

This is a one-day introductory seminar. There will be an opportunity for continued exploration in an 8-week conducting course planned for later in the year.

To register for the seminar, call the Brattleboro Music Center at 802-257-4523 or visit www.bmcvt.org for additional offerings.
