Intermediate Spoon Carving: Make a Cherry Tea Spoon

October 11, 2025 10:00 am

This class is perfect for anyone who has taken our Beginning Spoon Carving class before and/or knows a little bit about spoon carving and would like to know more and improve their skills. It’s a great opportunity for folks who have already done some green woodcarving and want to dive back in!.

Learn. We will dive further into the use of the sloyd (straight) knife and the hook knife, talk about how to get a smooth bowl finish, how to make a smaller spoon, tips on making a strong, elegant rim, explore wood grain, and more. You’ll be working with a new spoon form – the tea spoon – and a new wood species: black cherry.

Make. Students will leave the class with their own cherry tea spoon in progress, with the knowledge of how to finish once the spoon has dried. Also included are handouts of further resources, and the empowerment to continue learning and making things out of fresh-cut wood.

Saturday, October 11  |  10am – 4pm  |  Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch.

Cost: $195 non-members: $165.75 members (includes materials)
