Nonprofit Alternative Car-Buying Service – More Than Wheels!

Tired of buying clunkers? Frustrated by the interest rates you are being quoted to finance a new or gently used car?

Are you familiar with the nonprofit, More Than Wheels?

It’s an award-winning alternative car-buying service that has helped more than 2,000 individuals and families get on top of their finances, address credit issues, and buy reliable vehicles at great rates (3-4% recently) with no down payment required.

And thanks to a grant from the Canaday Foundation, More Than Wheels is expanding throughout Vermont!

Regardless of your credit score, if you have enough income left over after paying your bills to make a monthly car payment and cover related expenses (insurance, maintenance & gas) AND you are ready to address every item on your credit report, you probably qualify. You can find out for sure by completing a short survey at http://www.getareliablecar.org/.

Thanks Nan! This is the best idea since sliced bread.

    • I agree, Vidda. It's not for

I agree, Vidda. It’s not for everyone because it requires commitment but for those who are sick of avoiding creditors or subjecting themselves to predatory lenders, it’s a great option. The default rate is less than 5%, thanks to More Than Wheels’ partnerships with lenders and auto dealerships (including Brattleboro Subaru)and the support available throughout the loan by MTW’s wonderful financial coaches. They are great at helping find extra dollars in folks’ budgets to put toward car payments & advising people on how to negotiate with each and every creditor.

More Than Wheels has begun putting a lot of great content related to transportation solutions & money management (including info on student loan repayment options recently) on a blog. Check it out if so inclined:

  • More info in The Commons

Thanks to The Commons for helping to get out the word about the nonprofit alternative car-buying service, More Than Wheels.  Their piece contains a little more info than posted here:

Thanks also to the Brattleboro Reformer for printing the press release in the new section New England Drives.com last weekend and WTSA for the mention.

If you know that you’re going to be needing a car down the road, check out More Than Wheels‘ services to make sure you don’t pay too much. Some people have saved $10-15,000 over the life of their car loans by working with MTW.

And for helpful info re money & transportation issues, visit and/or subscribe to the More Than Wheels’ blog.
