RAIN ON HIS PARADE

The time has come for the protesters of the current administration to take it to the next level. There have been marches on Washington over the years and they have had some degree of effect, while sending messages that need to be heard from loud voices.

The difference in 2025 is that there is more at stake than ever before. Trump is quickly transforming our democracy into an oligarchy that will eventually become a dictatorship if there is no massive pushback. It is worth repeating that not enough legislators in congress are willing to fight against the new king. If they don’t kiss his ring they are subject to vindictive retribution.

Trump plans to have a giant military parade in Washington to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the military and to also celebrate his birthday on June 14. This parade needs to be shut down. The last time he proposed such a ridiculous undertaking the $90 million price tag and the fact that the streets of Washington would be destroyed by military vehicles put an end to his dream.

In 2025 Trump is more emboldened and he will stop at nothing to get his way. He wants to see the kind of display that is often seen in dictatorial militaristic countries such as North Korea and China. It’s all about size and the display of power for him because he is a sociopathic megalomaniac.

I am proposing that hundreds of thousands of Americans come to Washington on June 14 and develop a strategy to make sure the parade comes to a halt. It will take a lot of organizing but I think there is enough pent up frustration, fear and anger to mount a solid effort. It is possible that just the threat of a confrontation will stop Trump from having the parade.

But Trump and his cabal are intoxicated with power and they will probably say that they will declare martial law and use the military to stop all protest. If that happens that will be the turning point in this country’s history. Trump may welcome such a confrontation because he thinks he can do anything and get away with it.

The best scenario would be for protestors to block all of the streets that the parade could move down while bringing everything to a standstill. It is hard to predict what might happen, but if the American people do not take such a drastic move we will be living in a police state under a dictator by the end of Trump’s four years in office and he will find a way to bypass the constitution.

It is sad that it has come to this. If this was happening in France such a confrontation would have already happened and there would be riots in the streets. The French are not timid when it comes to protest, but Americans do not have a history of enough forceful protest in the past hundred or so years.

A lot would be a stake if the scenario I am suggesting takes place. I think Trump would give the military the order to shoot freely. Either the troops would come to their senses and defy a president who has completely lost his mind or they would follow orders and create the greatest massacre in the history of this country.

Do the American people really know what is at stake? Will they find the will to fight back on a massive scale or let democracy die?

  • Obstructing military parades is a great idea

I’m for it in principle, and certainly for the forthcoming ludicrous display.

  • Strategy

Veterans (and people dressed in business suits) should block the march. Get a Tiananmen Square moment out of it for media.

Others should organize a free celebrity-filled concert that is more fun and draws bigger crowds – do a LiveAid style show to raise money for peace.

Put me in a wheel chair and I will go. It may be the last protest I do at 83.
