Sugar House Tour in Guilford Saturday

Sugar House Tour 2019
East Hill Farm, Colyer Road, Guilford
Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00-3:00 pm –Stop by any time.

Windham Regional Woodlands Association (WRWA) is sponsoring its annual Sugar House Tour on Saturday. Each year WRWA showcases a different sugaring operation. This year East Hill Farm will be hosting the tour of their traditional wood fired sugaring operation with about 1050 taps on a pipeline, of which 400 are on 3/16” gravity line and an additional 700 taps with a light vacuum. In recognition of the old ways, they set out one to two hundred buckets. East Hill Farm uses a 40″ x 9′ wood fired evaporator and have recently added a small reverse osmosis machine to increase efficiency. They generally produce 200 to 300 gallons of syrup. Syrup will be for sale.

  • The Walnut Shack

We have what used to be a sugar shack out back. It’s empty except for a fair amount of squirrel-relocated walnuts and walnut shells. Needs a bit of work and cleaning before we can go into full walnut production. Not sure I’d want a fire anywhere near it.

Ahh, maple. This region could do far more to capitalize on maple season. This tour is a good example of how to get it going.
