Getting Married in Brattleboro. Recommendations for Justice of the Peace or Other Officiants?

We have recently relocated to Brattleboro and are getting married! Being new to town, we are overwelmed by the choices of JPs and other officiants in the area. We have no history or familiarity with any of them. I was unable to find much online for most of the JPs in town, although for a few I did uncover some town involvement and newspaper quotes over the years.

These are the currently serving Justices of the Peace:

I’d expect we aren’t alone in wondering who to call first; Brattleboro is a destination town, and  I’d imagine people visit here to get married, and have the same questions as us.

Here’s a wide-open question that would help us narrow down the list:

– Do you recommend any particular person and why?

If it helps your considerations, we are planning a non-religious ceremony, lean left politically, and are inclined to select someone who feels like a good match for us in that sense. But if you’d like to recommend someone who is a member of a religious community, or someone who leans right, by all means, as it may help others who find this Q/A.

Any other special considerations and suggestions for marrying in Brattleboro are appreciated.

  • I've known people who've used

I’ve known people who’ve used the services of Ronnie Johnson and have been quite pleased.

I don’t happen to know of any JPs, but I always recommend people seek out the minister of a local Unitarian Universalist church. Being a “post-Christian”, open-minded group, the minister is usually able to serve people of any or no religious faith. Especially good for couples with different beliefs. In Brattleboro that would be All Souls, http://www.ascvt.org/
There is also UU in Keene and Walpole NH not too far from here.
      Best wishes!

    Congratulations!
Just this past weekend I married a couple at the Inn of Weston, and it was such a sweet ceremony. My approach is co-create a ceremony with the couple. We meet, then over time put together a ceremony that reflects their vision and personal values. It is always a gift to me to participate in such a special process and event.
