More Suspicious Calls

Today I received two calls -both on my cell phone – both looking for medical information. The first- from # 767 – 275-9061-was from someplace called ” National Medical Audits”. The second – about 2 hours later- was from # 356-490-5697. and from “US Medical Associates” Both calls were obviously from call centers – there was a lot of background noise-and both times the caller was a man with a very pronounced Indian accent.

They asked for me and then asked if I had recently been diagnosed with any illnesses such as diabetes or cancer. I asked again what company they were calling from and when they repeated the name I asked what that company did. The reply was that they provided ‘medical compensation” and asked again if I had either diabetes or cancer.

When I asked “Compensation for what?” neither man answered me but repeated their question about recent diagnoses. I said I was happy to answer their questions but I would first like to speak with a supervisor – I was told there was no supervisor. I then said that I would answer their questions but that i would be recording the call. Both times they hung up immediately.

When i checked missed calls on both my phones I saw that these same 2 numbers had shown up frequently over the past 2 weeks but no message was ever left. Very creepy. I hate this stuff.

  • Capitalizing on pain

Isn’t it sad that there are companies devoted to scamming people with recenty diagnosed cancer and diabetes into parting with money? As if they didn’t have enough problems.

I don’t pick up the phone if it looks like a call center. In fact, I’m leery of almost any phone number I don’t know, mostly because I don’t want to give these people the satisfaction of getting a live human on the phone. 😉

    • It's despicable. And I'm sure

It’s despicable. And I’m sure there are some people that believe they can actually be compensated for a terrible illness – especially if they are faced with astronomical medical expenses. I normally don’t answer any call if it’s a number I don’t recognize. This time I was not wearing my glasses for the first call and had been talking to a friend and had the call cut short so when the 2nd call came within seconds I assumed it was her. I did report both calls to the authorities – not that there is much they can do.
