In the interest of accuracy, the kitten-related request was titled “Kitten Mistaking Bath Tub for a Litter Box’, not “Kitten Advice/Training Needed”.

    • Maybe

How about leaving a bit of water in the tub for a while, and a litter box nearby?

I also have a cat that loves to pee/poop in the bath tub so after I’ve showered I just fill the tub with about 2″ of water and I make sure the litter box is clean. It’s a little annoying to have to do this but not as annoying as having to scrub down the bath tub several times a day.My vet has no idea why this happens.

        • peein' in the tub

cats don’t like to have their own pee or poo around any more than we do. They are fastidious creatures. Your cat is smarter than average, too, because s/he has figured out that leaving it in the tub means it disappears completely (because you come along and take care of it for them)! Unlike the cat box, where, even covered, your kitty knows it’s there and can smell it even if you can’t. This is the perfect kind of cat to train to use your toilet instead. yup! It takes a few weeks and some attention, but once done, you’ll never have to worry about pee or poo in any place it doesn’t belong! If you’re willing to put in some real effort, you can even teach him/her to flush afterwards. Of course, that’s fascinating to watch, and could lead to flushing just for the sake of watching all that water get swirled away for naught…

There are plenty of tutorial on how to do this online, including on YouTube, so if you decide to try it, I wish you and your kitty bathroom bliss!

Thanks, everyone. Leaving a little water in the tub has definitely helped. We have also begun looking into toilet learning. Macky is fascinated by the toilet, anyway, so it might just work.
