VTA Forum On Cell & Broadband To Be Held Wednesday, January 22nd From 10 – 12 Noon

Cell phone, fiber optic, and broadband infrastructure projects are vital to businesses, families and educational sites in the Windham Region. The Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA) will hold a public forum at the Newbrook Fire Department (698 Route 30) on Wednesday, January 22nd from 10 a.m. until noon. The Windham Regional Commission invited the VTA to explain numerous telecommunications infrastructure improvement projects already underway in the region and those planned for the future. The Vermont Council on Rural Development is also active in the Windham Region. The director of its Digital Economy Project will also be at the forum to talk about what they’re working on in the region and to answer questions.

The 10 a.m. public forum at the Newbrook Fire Department will address projects throughout the Windham Region. VTA staff will provide information about the scope of cell, fiber optic and broadband projects and insights into opportunities these projects provide. Residents and business owners are urged to attend.

In the event of inclement weather, please visit the WRC website (www.windhamregional.org) or call 802-257-4547 x105 to see if the meeting has been canceled.

For more information, contact the Windham Regional Commission at 802-257-4547 (wrc@windhamregional.org), or Caro Thompson with the VTA at 802-828-3224 (CThompson@telecomvt.org).

Note: The VTA staff is also scheduling special meetings with members of designated Business Broadband Improvement Districts (BBIDs). BBIDs were developed through applications reviewed and designated by the Vermont Agency of Administration. They are groups of businesses within a defined area eligible to receive technical and/or financial support from the VTA in its efforts to improve available broadband Internet service specifically for businesses. Meetings will take place in Wilmington and Putney. Halifax is also a designated District and VTA staff will meet with its members at a later date.
