Governor Shumlin Proclaims May 10 as ‘Winston Prouty Center for Child Development Day in Vermont’

Governor Peter Shumlin has issued a proclamation declaring May 10, 2014 as “Winston Prouty Center for Child Development Day in Vermont.”

The proclamation coincides with the The Prouty Center’s 25^th Taste of the Town fundraiser, which will take place May 10th, from 6:30-10:30pm at the International Center on the campus of SIT Graduate Institute.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Governor Shumlin commissioned an Early Childhood Framework and Action Plan in 2013, which will be completed and implemented this year and coincides with the $36.9 million 4-year Early Learning Challenge Race to the Top Grant Vermont awarded in December 2013; and

WHEREAS, Winston Prouty Center for Child Development was one of the
first programs in the country aimed exclusively for preschool children with
special needs; and

WHEREAS, Winston Prouty Center for Child Development provides inclusive
education and family support to promote the success of children and families
through its Early Learning Center, as well as Children’s Integrated Services
(CIS), the state of Vermont’s program for providing support to young children
(0 to 6) and their families.

WHEREAS,  The Winston Prouty Center
will celebrating its 45^th year in 2014 and hosting its “25^th
and Final Annual Taste of the Town” fundraiser.

I, Peter Shumlin, Governor of
Vermont, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2014 as

Winston Prouty Center for Child Development Day

in Vermont.

The $50 ticket to The Taste of the Town offers a sampling of culinary delights donated from the best chefs and caterers in the area. Once again, the sought after bouquets and arrangements donated by area florists and nurseries that help transform the International Center to the idyllic setting of a spring garden will be given away as door prizes. The silent and live auction will offer great services from area merchants and businesses. There will be musical entertainment provided by the Butterfly Swing Band as well.

For over 45 years, The Winston Prouty Center for Child Development has provided inclusive education and family support to promote the success of children and families. The Center is comprised of the Early Learning Center and Children’s Integrated Services (CIS), the state of Vermont’s program for providing support to young children (0 to 6) and their families. The Early Learning Center offers early care and education for children age 14 months through 5 years. CIS includes Early Intervention (formerly called Family Infant Toddler), Family Support, Early Childhood Family Mental Health (with HCRS), Nursing, and Specialized Child Care (with Windham Child Care Association).

This year’s Taste of the Town sponsors are The Richards Group, Trust Company of Vermont, GS Precision, River Valley Credit Union, Brattleboro Primary Care and Brattleboro Ford Subaru. All proceeds from The Taste of the Town directly support the educational programs and specialized services of the Prouty Center.
