Brattleboro Water Quality

Brattleboro’s 2014 Water Quality Report is now available. Once again we are proud to report no violations and few contaminants detected in the water we supply. This Federally mandated report contains information and test results on the water supplied to Brattleboro residents during the past year. It also includes general information about your water supply and its sources and a little water department news on upcoming projects.

Customers receiving a bill will find a web address at the bottom where they can go to read the report online. The address is www.sover.net/~brattdpw/2014_CCR.pdf. You may also go to www.brattleboro.org, click on departments and then Public Works, Water Supply page, where there is a link to the report.

For anyone who would prefer a paper copy, you may pick up a report at the Treasurer’s office at 230 Main Street when you pay your bill, or at several other places including the Town Clerk’s office, the Brooks Memorial Library, the Chamber of Commerce on Main Street or at the Water Department office at 211 Fairground Road. We will also mail a copy to anyone that calls our office at 254-4255 and gives us a name and mailing address.

  • From The Tap - There's gold in H2O

I am a lifelong tap water drinker. First from our own well, that changed to the city water mains in my late teens. Daily consumption of bottled water was unheard of. I have never lost my mistrust of drinking from plastic bottles.

I took a look at the report but decided not to read it in detail. No water source is going to be pristine, but I’ll stay with the tap as long as the general quality and safety standards remain acceptable.

Of course, I take the tap for granted and still cannot imagine my world without having water at my fingertips. I also dread the prospect of it.

There’s gold in H2O and diminished fresh water sustainability will continue to strike down many living things even in my old age.
