Noticed About Town – Fall 2014 Edition

Brilliance is back in the Brooks House. The frozen yogurt place is a new establishment next door, opening just in time for fall and winter. They’ll need some love to get them to a hot summer day.

Duo, the restaurant at the corner of the Brooks House, has been active. They are likely open by the time you read this. I saw a training session going on through the window the other night.

Shall we just say the Brooks House is back?

The new brewery in the former Blue Moose location is well underway.

New traffic equipment in West Brattleboro seems to be having a residual effect, keeping things slower from that point onward into town, at least for a while. Perhaps the answer to slower traffic in town is to slow down on the outskirts first.

New speed-noticing alert sign along Putney Road as one enters downtown might also slow things a bit.

The tiny toy store is open near the Latchis.

The new building next to Vermont Country Deli looks great. (What is it?)

What have you noticed?

  • Vermont Deli Lot Addition

The building was constructed adjacent to Vermont Deli (just across Williams Street) to look like a sister lot. The new building will contain a small market/grocery and a Welcome Center. Also, there will be bathrooms and parking for customers to use for both lots.

  • My understanding is that

My understanding is that Vermont Country Deli will be using this new building to offer an expanded selection of take out food and some additional food stuffs – much of it locally made as well as being a welcoming spot for visitors to our town. The few extra parking spaces will be a much welcome addition to the treacherous and difficult to maneuver spots now at the deli.

  • Many new, tiny baby goats

Many new, tiny baby goats munching away at the grass on Solar Hill. They make me smile every time I go by that place.

KidsPLAYce reopens tomorrow with a new director (actually 2 new directors, I think)

Dosa Kitchen in the alleyway next to Hooker Dunham continues to be a busy and much welcome spot to grab a delicious lunch and they stay open later for dinner on Gallery Walk nights.

  • I noticed that morning glory seeds are ready for harvest

Anywhere you saw a morning glory plant in town, if you check the vines, you can find small tannish grey seedpods. If you roll them in your finger, the little seeds will come out.

If you save them for next year, soak them in water for 24 hours, then plant them, we can all notice them around town next year.

Here is a how too video.

  • More stores

There is a new Verde-like store with gifts and such on Elliot Street. I think it is called Very V’s.

There is a new store of used clothing across the street, next to Brattleboro Books. Anyone know the name? Details?

There is a new store going in where At The Oasis used to reside. The Crafty Cauldron. It doesn’t seem to have witchy things, though, despite the name.

  • Solar, plus

Solar array visible from 91 is opening.

The first pier for the new 91 bridge is approaching completion.

Walkway under Brooks House/High Street now has a sidewalk.

  • Musical Main Street

Large, tubular wind chimes on Main Street in at least a couple of locations.

  • Parking

AutoMall got a new paving of their lot.

New parking roof contraptions in Harmony Lot for Brooks House tenants. They appear to direct all snow to slide into the public lot. Clever.

New signs indicating parking is for college use only.
